LLoyds Bank Rip Off

I am not a bad payer. I simply forgot to pay once for which I am prepared to pay a one-off charge but not the astronomical charges levied by Lloyds TSB ie £15 for every day. I went overdrawn ONCE, on one day, not on 8 consecutive days. My balance on day 8 was the same as on day 1 apart from the charges.

It must be so nice for you up there on your high horse!
  • No from what you have just written you were overdrawn either without a limit or over your limit for 8 days not one.

What ever- you can ask for the customer support unit, explain to them how you really can't afford, it is making you stressed, exceptional circumstances etc out of the country then accident, offer Doctors note if required... and say some one in the branch suggested you call as they couldn't do anything and as a one off they could probably wipe them off for you, esp. if you've been with them a while, have reasonable, regular income etc...

They wiped mine of £200 last week, I wssurprised they did this but if you have genuinely been at the hands of bad circumstances this is the only department that can help you. Did have the number but lost it!

Good luck and hope it doesn't happen again

I take it then that things have got so bad that your account is now under the control of the Collections Dept.
  • Yes I was overdrawn for 8 days but for the same amount from day 1 (£9.87). Days 2 to 8 did not incur any extra work for the bank so how can they justify charging another £105 for doing nothing?

I can't - but under the old rules you would have been charged the once and that would have been it - blame all the people who are claiming back their charges, they started it!

Every day you are over your limit you appear on a report for the lending manager to work through each day. So whilst it may just be striking a line through your entry it still requires someone to do something on your account daily. If there were multiple entries over the period (which it sounds like from your post) then it would have been more work and would also have involved multiple staff as the lending manager wouldnt return the direct debits. Another clerk would do that. When I was in banking, bouncing items was all day job for one clerk and that was an average size branch.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. Did I not like doing that job!
Managers forever changing their minds about paying or bouncing - then blooming customers paying in to further muddy the waters :rotfl:
  • It would not have involved any other clerks as there were no DD's to return. I don't use the account anymore, I am paying off an authorised overdraft and then getting rid. In my eyes, someone (Lending Manager or whoever) "striking a line through my entry" on a list does not warrant £15 a day.
