LLoyds Bank Rip Off

:o Ok I will keep this short.

I had some money problems at xmas time and bounced a few DDs.

The bank then charged me around 150 quid making me overdrawn I was out the country for 2 weeks and when I returned intended to sort this out in a few days on the weekend I returned I had a car crash and ended up in hospital for around 1 week and its took me nearly 1 month to get over this.

So logging online and cancelling my DDs was last thing on my mind last night I had another set to with Lloyds on the phone and they have now charged me another 165 pounds in changes and intend to bill me 210 pounds at the end of March.

I wonder what I can do as I have said take me to court and I will stand there and just tell a judge what you have done to me with these charges and see what he says about it.

As I just think this is outrageous, I have explained to Lloyds to I am blue in the face and they just seem to not care or I get someone in India who does not even understand English.

Any Ideas Peeps.

Thanks

No, it's not a rip-off. It's the terms you signed up to.
Speak to them nicely, without using terms like rip-off, without threatening them with judges, and explain what happened. Unless you have done this sort of thing before, they may be conciliatory.
  • I also fell out with Lloyds TSB today. I am paying off an authorised overdraft so that I can close the account (I don't use it anymore). In December I forgot my usual monthly payment (New Year's Eve - other things on my mind) and so only paid it on 8 January. I got a letter last week saying my overdraft is now down to £90 (I pay £50 a month off it) but my balance was £97 overdrawn (£7 over my limit due to bank charges. Today I received a letter telling me I am now £40 over my limit and they are imposing another £150 charges on me over the next 2 months. The only reason I am overdrawn is because of charges imposed by the bank not because I am spending money. How can they justify charging £15 a day because a computer says I am overdrawn? I am sure it is not costing anyone £15 a day to look at my account. It only gets looked at once a month when they impose more charges. I asked the Indian man today if his name was !!!!!! Turpin but he told me not to use bad language.

I have just been into the branch and drawn all money out of my children's accounts and closed them. I want nothing more to do with them apart from claiming all bank charges back.

Banks are not there to service the needs of bad payers, they are there to make money, either stand by the agreement that you signed up to, or stop whinging.

My bank has never charged me a penny piece.

If all the people paying iniquitous charges at the moment did suddenly become 'good payers', would your bank continue to service your banking needs free of charge out of the goodness of its heart? I think not! Your and my free banking comes at the expense of other people's misery, make no mistake about it.

Actually, the bulk of the cross subsidising comes from business accounts.

... and overseas activities, and FX, and selling insurance, and market trading, and .... well, not from domestic retail DD processing.
  • Sorry, my mistake. So no real need for these charges other than sheer profiteering after all.

Someone has to pay for the staff that spend all day dealing with the bad accounts and a business has a right to make a profit for its shareholders.

  • OP said that he spoke to someone in India - funny that all customer calls to 0845 300 0000 are now answered in UK.
