gnirokasysn987: £700 for the quarter and I thought my bill was high !!!
According to e.on, over the last 5 months (30th March - 2nd Sept) we have used "1989 Normal kWh (kilowatt-hours)" of electricity for which they have charged me £238.
It breaks down as:
Normal primary units used 385 kWh at 22.37p each = 86.12
Normal secondary units used 1604 kWh at 9.53p each = 152.86
We live in modest 3 bedroomed semi, 2 adults, 2 kids with at least 2 people in the house most of the day every day.
So, are these costs about average or overly high ?0 -
I think some of these costs seem high but compared to my £8/month with npower for a 3 bedroom terrace i think most peoples are higher than they could be and im always in credit by £40 or more. I only have the light on in the room im in, turn everything off at the plugs, tv, washing machine, kettle, dvd player, gas cooker(as the clock is a waste of electric to me when i have a phone or tv for the time), microwave etc I have also fitted lcd or energy saving bulbs everywhere. I also only do a wash when the washing machine is full to capacity and wash at a low temp so colours and whites go in together. I honestly dont find this a slog as i would rather the money went elsewhere than wasted on boring electricity by such small changes.I find npower great. By paying direct debit you get £100 free credit per year which means im never out of credit and my summer credit pays off any extra winter bills. For gas i pay £18/month in winter and always reach for blankets, cosy socks and jumpers before turning the heating on. I also make more food than necessary and freeze/refigerate spare to save on the gas cooker. For me all these small changes are well worth it and add up to make mine a tiny bill so would recommend anyone giving i a go:)0

The days of cheap electricity and gas have long gone and the current and future price of these commodities will only take an upward trend. It's now all about reducing your consumption in the most cost effective way possible to ensure your return on investment and to keep your utility bills at home to a respectable level.0

hiya!!!
first time doing this so hope its right!
my mother and father in-law have their dual fuel with scottish power after a representative came to their house saying they would be cheaper than their current provider which was n-power!
the recieved their bill for £160.00 and thats its only just covering their bill yet previously when they were with paying £60 a month with n-power and were always in credit. when they called scottish power they were told to provide 5 days worth of meter readings and then they would check to see if the meters were faulty is there anything else anyone should suggest????

I have varying electric usage at every property I use! Last year I ran 2 plasma tvs and a pc on for about 8-10 hours a day and electric heating on for a hour or two every day for a few weeks and spent under £4 a week, then moved to a smaller flat and used a single 20" CRT and a 19"LCD monitor and a pc and used £6 a week, I then moved to another property and used £4 a week pretty much being out 5-6 days a week at family or friends and just having fridge on and nothing on standby(turned off at wall) then moved to another and paid like £6 for having plasma and pc and crt tv on about 10-12 hours a day and cooking a lot, now have a pc on its own, sometimes with a pc for a few hours and using about £1.80 a day.

If this helps anyone.....
Our average electricity useage per week is 46kwh (6.6 units per day) Oct to Oct.
Modern 3 bed semi, electric oven gas CH, two adults and a dog, home most evenings large screen LCD TV on 4 hours a day, LED/low energy bulbs, two freezers, washing machine and dishwasher used only once a week. House empty I guess for four weeks a year.
We try to turn off everything that is not being used, but do keep the TV recorders on at all times.0 -
Sorry I am new to this and I don't know how to make a post! Lol!
I live in a small studio flat( single occupancy) and I have economy 7. I want to know what the average electricity consumption per quarter/year/ week is for a studio flat. The reason I ask is that I have just received a bill for almost £300. It is for a quarter and it covers 8 July to 6 October. Since October 2009 I have been receiving estimated bills, so I am aware that this bill will cover any shortfall. If that makes sense. However, I still think it is too high. I have spoken to EDF and they have told me to do a seven day reading and they will take it from there. On the bill my average usage per day is 26.91kw. Is this right? Last year the bill covering roughly the same period with a reading provided by me was 3.12 units per day. I have a small water tank which I only turn on when I want hot water. A fan heater in the bathroom which is hardly ever used and a electric shower and the usual household appliances. I have also received similar bill in the past that covered winter. I have always felt that my bills were too high but EDF won't have any of it.
Could the metre reader be faulty? I have a digital metre reader. I carried out two tests. I turned off the power supply at the mains for 30 minutes( 11.30-12 pm) the LED light remained on. I did another test a few hours later. Power supply was off for two hours ( 2pm 4pm) and the LED lights were still on. I also noticed that the digit on the far right was moving. I live in a converted house and have two three neighbours
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheaper than us, my mum was on a cheap payment tariff with Southern Electric for 2 years and since August when it stopped is now on energyplus care general domestic. ready for a price hike
she was paying £10 a week for electric and £7 for gas, and always in credit. now shes been told she has to pay £24 a week for her electric yes a week and still only £7 for gas, thats before they put it up by what is it 9.6% so i'm factoring in about another £3 on top, we've phoned up today to see if she can be put back on the lower tariff but this is a kicker, we no longer come under the percentage,
which has increase from 10% to 20%. we are currently 13%. so we are 7% over the top.
something to do with income / amount you use in £ = 20%
i would hate to be someone at 19.5-19.9%
£24 a week for electric is just unbelieveable. that £96 a month compared with only £40 the previous
ok breakdown.
we are with Southern Electric.
we live in a 3 bedroom house, there are 2 people and 2 cats.
i use a pc pretty much everyday, lcd tv as the monitor
mum uses a 32in lcd tv everyday.
2 freezers, 1 fridge, 1 gascooker, electric kettle, microwave, 8kw shower, used erm 3 times a week by me, and twice a week by mum.
about 20min per time.
washing machine and dryer not used daily, more every other day.
Gas central heating on everyday if its less than 19'c in house.
my mum is 74 so fills the cold.
Just has double glazed windows put in past month, everything else roof, cavity walls etc all done about 2 years ago.
Usage hasn't changed at all, thinking about changing supplier after we get are current electric bill and this is another kicker, we pay £40 a month yet in only 3months after august of being taken on the lower tariff we owe a whopping £220, so we cant change due to that as we would have to pay it in 1 lump sum.0 -
Monthly Electric.....£40
Monthly Gas..........£18
Last Bill British Gas Nov 09
Electric is £22 pound in credit
