It's easier than that, daz.
Prior years' money can be sliced and diced how you like. It doesn't even have to stay together in entire years' chunks.
So you might have £3,000 from 2002/03 and £3,000 from 2003/04 - but you can transfer £5,000 to provider A and £1,000 to provider B, if (a) A and B accept transfers in and (b) your original provider allows partial transfers out.
Neither (a) or (b) are a given, by the way.
And it's 6 April, not 1 April.0 -
I know everyone says that you can open a new isa and transfer previous years isa's to a different provider. The problem i'm having is, this year 2010/11 I have subscribed to Barclays Golden Isa Issue 2 and filled it with the maximum allowance. Now I have the Barclays Tax Haven Isa and Golden Isa with previous years allowances which are now paying very little interest. So I wanted to transfer both of them to Lloyds Tsb (I know its not the best paying, but I bank with them so its easy to keep track).
However when I called them up to open it, the lady on the phone said I had to put money in as the minimum balance was £1. Obviously I cant do this!!
Any suggestions on what I can do?0 -
Is anyone having similar problems? I applied on-line around April 6th to set up Halifax fixed ISA (going for 2 year option) to transfer in an old ISA. I rang a couple of days ago, to see if they had received my online application, they have, the a/c is open, I will receive my 'starter pack' "shortly". They won't, however, give me the a/c number over the phone for 'security reasons', even though I answered all the security questions allowing them to tell me the a/c is open! Without the a/c number I can not complete the transfer form!!! My money is in limbo, earning next to nothing with the old provider. Grrrrrr!!! :mad:0

im also with First Direct and have about 15k in my ISA, the rate will go to a useless 0.2 in May, I was looking at the post office ISA HERE
I would be interested to know what others think, I can put it away for a year max without touching it or is there a better transfer rate I'm missing

When I transfered to lloydstsb for the same reason as yourself (I also bank with them) then on the form where is it says how much you want to bank, I put down the amount in my previous provider in the lump sum column. Then I ticked the box to transfer from another provider and attached the transfer form. With lloydstsb you can continue to transfer both old ISA's and new money from this years allowance as often as you want.0 -

Hi, I have transferred ISA's to Halifax before. I have found it to be much quicker and easier to pop into their branch rather than deal with ISAs over the phone. My suggestion (if you can) is to visit one of their branches with ID and proof address and they should be able to get everything done there and then. Alternatively you could ask Halifax to register you for internet banking and get the account number that way.;)0 -

Nessie, I didn't think you existed! Thanks for excellent suggestions.

Hi Irishkeet,
Interest seems competitive, however beware that Post Office ISAs are deposited with Bank of Ireland so you don't get FSCS Compensation if Bank of Ireland were to go bust, you would have to rely instead in the Irish Safety Scheme. Personally I would also consider other alternatives.
For example Dumfermeline are also offering 3% for 1 year, or you can consider isas with instant access at 2.7%.
You can check out a comprehensive list at kazza's thread (including ISAs which accept transfers) here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=4603369&postcount=1
Hope this helps!

I have a NatWest ISA that unfortunately managed to get a deposit in it on the 6th April... Does this mean that I:
(a) Can't open another ISA for paying in? and / or
(b) Can't transfer the funds from the ISA into another?
Or
(c) Can I transfer ALL except the '6th April' deposit, as it's previous years? Then just take the extra deposit out, and pay it in to a new cash ISA as part of this years allowance? Losing it's tax free status not being a big issue, as I'm unlikely to hit the new maximum?
Tried to look for an answer to this type of question, but couldn't really see anything definitive...0 -
