Is this actually worth anything or just a holiday scam?

People do sometimes tell you about their really cheap holiday - but they forget the capital sum they have "invested" and annual charges they pay.
I looked into timeshare a couple of years ago. Many schemes are just scams, but if you can avoid them and evaluate the genuine timeshare schemes they are at best a very expensive way of buying a holiday. Some people like the idea of "owning" something which a timeshare seems to offer, but it is an illusion. Buying something that you can sell the next day for 10% - 20% of what you paid for it is daft. And we have all heard about the scams where they charge you a fee to sell your timeshare.
There may be a small number of people who go on many holidays a year and can go at any time and to anywhere for whom a timeshare is not a disastrously bad investment. But even for them the deals they could get given their ability to go anywhere at any time still makes their timeshare an expensive way of having a holiday.
For the majority of people timeshare is at best expensive at worst a rip off. The timeshare pond is infested with sharks. Don't even dip your toe in.0 -
Why dredge up a 3 year old thread?0

Easy, Andy. Bartsimpson is new here.0

Methinks Bartsimpson & bat21tiger are interns at seasonholdidays. I know real people with timeshares and none of them talk about their timeshares in such glowing terms. We've de-bunked their marketing ploys time & time again on here.
Personally, I wouldn't take any advice of a Risk Management Consultant (whatever that is) who can't do sums.

Hello there, I am new here, but was interested to read this thread.
I recently "won" a Seasons Holiday (exclusive to the Racing UK Sports Channel) scratchcard prize of "One Week Luxury Holiday Accomodation for Four at any Seasons resort every year for a lifetime worth £3,750.
Naturally I phoned their freephone 0800 448 448 to claim the prize. They advised me that I need only pay an annual maintenance fee of £367 which is currently discounted to £275 for next year.
Is this an offer worth taking? I know this site usually advises that you only "win" if you have to pay nothing out. But from reading this thread some people appear to have had to pay out a bit more. In short, is this a prize worth having - some of the resorts look nice, for instance Knocktopher Abbey in Ireland?
Any advice much appreciated!

What you have 'won' is a contract that cannot be cancelled to send them money each year (the maintenance fee) for whatever period membership is whether you take a holiday or not.
Not worth taking.0 -
This has been brought up before on this forum, you can search seasons holidays and bring them up.
I had one too, I won't be taking the offer.0 -
Within a day of me starting to enter competitions I won this. I wonder how many people actually lose?;)
