Mince pies -can I cook mince pies and freeze those too? How do I best defrost them? - I'm trying, rather ignorantly to prepare in advance! (they are all for Boxing Day)
thanks
Yes i freeze mince pies every year...take out the freezer and they defrost in 20-30 mins and are ready to serve..or microwave for quick results. You can heat from frozen in the oven but i've never done this so can't give you the timings
Raw meat (incl sausage meat) can be frozen then defrosted and cooked and then re-frozen.0 -
I have forgotten to take the mince for tonights tea out of the freezer  (fresh mince that I have frozen myself)
is it safe to cook it from frozen or do I have to fully defrost it?Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0 -
Cook it slowly from frozen, and it'll be fine
You may want to add a splash of liquid to stop it sticking, as it thaws.

Hi
I am hoping to make some apple crumble with 'eating' apples and wondered whether I would need to cook before I freeze or not?
My son has just done Home Economics at school and they did not cook the apple first, they sliced it and then added crumble, then cooked it in the oven - it worked well.
Also if I froze in casserole dishes would these crack when I put them in the oven?
Thanks

When I do apples, I cook them in the microwave in ordinary 'pyrex-style' dishes but only enough to soften them (I like a bit of texture to my apples). Allow to cool down and then put into lidded-margarine tubs to freeze.
I'd do what other posters have said with the apple crumble mixture and just freeze in a large zip-lock polythene bag in the freezer. That way you can make small or large ones depending on what's needed.
