1) Nope, just chop and freeze.
2) What I like to do is grate any leftover carrots, or chop as you say, and freeze them in a bag - one that gives room for movement, like a big ziplock, not one of the tesco value sandwich bag things. Give the bag a good little shake every now and then and they're good for adding a handful or two to soups
3) Definitely. Great for a little breakfast treat - just microwave for a few seconds until nice and hot :drool:0 -
Title meant to read egg and bacon pie!
Have a baby due in a few weeks and thought i would freeze some meals up so they can be bunged into the oven etc.
My egg and bacon pie is a shortcrust base, egg, bacon, cheese, tin toms, spinach. Would it be better to mix and freeze uncooked or cook and freeze then re-heat when needed in oven?
I had a quick browse around the net and some say you can't freeze cooked bacon?
thanks0 -
Hi lindsey,
You definitely can freeze cooked bacon providing it hasn't been previously frozen while cooked.
Your pie will be absolutely fine to freeze cooked. When reheating make sure it's piping hot before serving and always reheat in an oven as a microwave would make the pastry soggy.

Never had a problem with freezing cooked bacon and I often use it in quiche and pasties etc. I prefer to freeze pies cooked because I can then slice them and freeze in portion sizes. The egg and bacon pie I make is basically a scrambled egg mix with chopped cooked bacon and that freezes fine, its no different to freezing quiche really. The old recipe I used to use had several whole boiled eggs in it as well and that won't freeze... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I always wonder about reheating in an oven or on a hob, I've no idea how to do it (microwave kid, I'm afraid...)
What time and temp for an oven for, say, a pie or a shepherds pie or similar?
And on the hob, what time/heat for something like soup or bolognaise or curry?
Can you do either of these methods from frozen? I'm guessing not.
I've always wanted to know!

If you like muffins and need to use the carrots, you can make carrot muffins. Like carrot cake but much quicker, and useful for lunchboxes.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

I wouldnt heat anything like chilli, curry or soup from frozen on the hob, I defrost into a dish and heat in the micro, stir half way through and make sure its heated through properly - check the bottom of the dish, sometimes food seems hot but the bottom of the dish is still cold
I put pies from freezer into the convection oven at about 180; how long it will take depends on what size it is, I do portion sized pieces so take something around 25/35 minutes, again always make sure you heat through thoroughly... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Sounds like a really stupid question but can you actually freeze soup? I want to make a whole bunch in my slow cooker to take to work with me but the only way I could store it would be to freeze it. Sorry my head is all over the place at the moment and I can't work out if it's a good idea or not hehe!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170
