I have found it is very crumbly and a pain in the backside for use in sandwiches.

The thinner you try and cut it the worst it gets and you just get lumps and my husband really does not want cheese boulder sandwiches:rotfl:

I cut the block of cheese into smaller squares, I only freeze it as I know i'll never use it all up before it goes off, it's great in scones and stuff like that.

I mainly freeze parmesan and freeze it in usable blocks. I also have some stilton in there ATM and that comes out ok, perhaps a little less moist, but fine. Generally I'd cook with deep freeze - cheese :)

butter I freeze as it comes and remove a block at a time for use as normal.

Sorting the freezer is a help: designating areas for dairy/meat/veg/meals. ATM I'm looking for stackable boxes for my chest freezer than waste no room....no easy task....as my contents keep dancing around in there, playing musical chairs ;)

As others have said, cheese is best frozen grated. Don't pack it in too tightly otherwise it is difficult to get a small amount out. You can use it straight from the freezer in cooking.

We always keep butter in the freezer. One block comes out and goes in the fridge. Use half in butter dish which is out unless weather is hot, half stays in fridge. When second half goes into butter dish, a new block comes out the freezer and goes into the fridge. One block usually lasts us a couple of weeks and is fine unless it is left out on a really hot day - but then butter which hadn't been frozen would also suffer on a hot day.

I agree with babyshoes - but also when I cut a block of butter in half, I cut it lengthways, not across, to put in a butter dish. It doesn't really do anything - just looks better. I often also cube and freeze a block of butter so that I've always got a bit to hand for adding to cooked veg etc.

I use margarine tubs to freeze food in, I'm sick of buying boxes that crack cos they've been in and out of the freezer, and they stack well.

I've got some bananas that need using so im making some cupcake this afternoon... it going to be quite a lot of cupcakes (as i have quite a lot of bananas) more than what are little family can eat. the recipe doesn't say if they can be frozen or not, so i was wondering if it would be okay to freeze them?
