Well they're not quite ~that~ much cheaper - £10.49 only buys you a slower rated memory than the one on 7DS.

If you go for the same spec the price goes up to £13.49 - but that is still cheaper. I've always thought that 7DS's postage costs are a touch too high for small items...

    Cheers Donnie,
Cannot see any at 10.49 from your link though,is it the one at £11.99?

What do all these numbers mean please?
On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.

Since DDR2 PC2-5300 is the memory quoted as compatible, the comparison still stands.

In fact I think DDR2 PC2-4200 is the correctly rated memory.

Pointless paying extra for higher rated memory which will remain unutilised.

More importantly Bestyman run CPU-Z to find out exactly what you have onboard, as whichever memory you purchase, will have to match.

ie. PC2-4200 DDR2-533 onboard, then purchase something with that rating.
PC2-3200 non-ECC DDR2-400 onboard? Purchase something with that rating.

Anything over PC2-4200 DDR2-533 is unlikely to be necessary, but will still work, at PC2-4200 DDR2-533 speeds. :)

In other words, you can purchase this one for 7.99 plus 2.50 postage and packing, but this one is best(Lower latency), at 9.99 plus 2.50 postage and packing.

    Yes, that's the one.

The numbers appear confusing, but there's a lot of redundancy in there. DDR2 is the second generation of DDR, and the PC2 signifies the same thing. The figures are just the clock rate expressed in two ways. PC2-6400 is simply another way of saying DDR2-800.

Now if you want to get really confused, start looking at CAS latency, row refresh times etc. e.g. Is 4,5,5,18 better than 5,5,5,12 at a given clock rate? (I don't know the answer to that BTW).

Donnie - not sure if you noticed post #7 from Supers, which suggests that the mobo will support PC2-6400.

However, my past experience of the Crucial website is not so great, so CPU-Z or the very excellent PC Wizard from the same website would be a good way to be sure.

No, Bestyman, that isn't the one. Stick with what I have written.

Yes, I saw the post. The PC is compatible with PC2-4200 DDR2-533. It will work with the others, but only at PC2-4200 DDR2-533 speeds.

(I'm sure I've written that somewhere before)

Ok - Crucial gets it wrong - not for the first time.

Or maybe that should be "Crucial tries to get you to buy a better spec of memory than you mobo can use"...

More like; "Crucial tries to sell you what it has in stock(as long as it works)".

Though, in this case, superscaper's post did indicate that PC 4200 was the likely match, as they wouldn't list a lower rated and incompatible memory.
