At the risk of repeating myself ad nauseum, starting is not the same as opening. An account can be opened but an ISA (the legal wrapper) does not start until money has been deposited - that is all that section is saying, a mere reflection of the ISA rules. It does not refer at all to the 12-month term clock which starts when the account is opened. This is perfectly normal banking practice.

I don't like Lloyds handling of this fiasco and their T&Cs are a badly copied template but I would wholly accept a robust interpretation of these terms. What they should be doing is compensating for unreasonable delays that they have introduced.

Thanks for the explanation which I now understand.

Only got to sort out the following now:

1)Can I be sure I am getting 6.5%-I have no paperwork to prove it.
2)They credited the first payment two weeks after the date of cheque from my previous provider so I need them to confirm I will get interest from that date.
3)A calculator to sort out 6.5% on £x for 10 months 27 days and 6.5% on £x for 10 months 3days.This one looks like it will do the job

4)Reminder to give them enough notice to transfer to new account next year cos they are bound to be giving a uncompetative rate after this one!

  • Hi there everyone, I have this ISA account and am using internet banking to keep charge of it and my other current accounts.

I seem to be having a problem transferring money into my ISA - saying "The amount you have entered is below the minimum allowable amount that should be transferred to the ISA account."

What is this minimum amount? I've tried tranferring up to £500 so far from my other savings account but still no joy...
  • Also, can I even just 'transfer' money from my current account - or do I have to make a payment and enter in my ISA details? Just seems a lil silly to have to do that so thought transferring money in was ok...?

There is no minumum amount you can transfer or pay into your ISA

You can transfer direct from your current account using the Internet

When you fill in the details of the amount you want to transfer do you make sure you fill in the two boxes for both pounds and pennies (even if you put 00 in the pennies box)

It would depend on who had the highest interest rate for an isa at the moment.
    Nice to save.

the length of the thread is a giveaway but also the rate dropped from 6.5% to 5% max (I think)

The easy access e-ISA from hsbc is at 6.25%... so not a bad rate !!

But the older now defunct ISAs from HSBC are a poor rate...
