The Link are currently offering 12 months free line rental on 3's talk and text 600 tariff.
This Tariff includes 500 cross network minutes and 100 texts per months. The contract is for 18 months, so when the 12 month promotional period ends, you must keep the tariff for 6 more months. The cost is £30 per month, so overall you'll pay £180 for 18 months.

e2Save are offering the LG 8130 with 14 months free line rental (and the remaining 4 months at £30PM) so will cost a total of £120 overall, after cashback.

See my earlier post at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=71962. I've spoken with several mobile phone marketing managers over the last few months about the poor value offered through most 18 months contracts. Most of them agree with me - in principle, that these deals are poorer value when compared to their 12 month equivalent. But they will continue to promote them as they sell very well. Some of these offers can be very misleading, the advert from The Link is a good example with no mention that this is an 18 month contract costing an extra £180.
To the average consumer 12 months free on an 18 month contract sounds better than 6 months free on a 12 month contract. The fact is that both contracts will cost the same but with the 18 month deal the customer would have to wait 50% longer for their next free phone - effectively losing out as they would receive only one new phone/upgrade over a three year period instead of two.
Besides that, there are much better deals to be found on 12 month contracts anyway. For example, on the same Talk & Text 600 tariff - 12 month version...
LG 8130 total cost £73.89 at OSPS
LG 8138 total cost £47.88 at Fone Station
Nokia 6630 total cost £120.00 at OSPS
Motorola C975 total cost FREE at Fone Station
See https://www.mobiles4everyone.com/tariffs.asp?tariff=3xnet600 to compare more.
Dealers will start to lose long term business by selling 18 month contracts as they'll need to wait 50% longer for a sale from a returning customer. This could have a serious impact of the mobile phone retail business for contract phones.0 -
I purchased the above contract with The Link - 500 minutes and 100 texts with 3 but this was available at the shop not online. Think it is still available.0

e2save, who are part of the Carphonewarehouse group offer cash rewards of up to £40 (not always this much) if you refer a friend who buys a contract phone from them. They will match any deal (including CPW), so you can't loose. The best bit is that you can self refer - so you automatically get a big discount. It is possible to have phone for a year with free line rental plus the cash reward - I've done it! Free phone plus money in your pocket!0

Mobileshop.com offer a free 12 month line rental with a 12 month contract (Motorola V220 on O2 100 + 100 Texts on O2)0

I wouldn't take out an 18 month contract, I agree with the article above about 18 month contracts.
There are allways 12 month alturnatives and they work out cheaper in the long run. We should spread the word and shun 18 month contracts.

I saw on the carphonewarehouse site that there a a £2.99 deal a month for 12 mths at a 12mth contract. However read the t&c and you have to pay full price as usual and then get your money back after 4,8 and 12mth month. Its the nokia 7600.

I don't trust cashback offers anymore as my partner didn't get any of the cashback promised by mobilemadness.com, despite all the letters adn emails we've sent. Think it's all a scam. Any ideas anyone?0

i think this is the best contract you can get at the moment, if you are willing to use the cash back thing they do, in total you will pay £180 and you get the new k750i for free, and it is a 12 month contract
