A&L Won't Give Me My Money

Two things:
1) Holding cash in branches is expensive and inefficient as well as putting branch staff at risk from being held up. You signed up to the £250 a day limit in your terms and conditions and Alliance and Leicester have to have appropriate controls for money laundering reasons.
2) Why do you need so much cash for your holiday? Unless you are going somewhere really undeveloped there will be cash machines and places will take credit or debit cards. Even if you can't use cards, you should think about using travellers cheques to give you some additional security and protection.
Yes it is your money, but you also demand a high rate of interest and free banking. Don't complain when customer service suffers as a result. There is a reason why premium banking services cost more.Smile
, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.0 -
I have posted this problem somewhere else but will add to this thread. I opened an A&L account via the Internet in March and am still waiting for my £25 incentive. I now have 4 letters from A&L saying the matter is being looked into dated April to July. It must be costing them more than that to reply to my letters.

well if you have a premier plus and you have lots of money with them then of course they'll like you!0

Well, I think leaving me overdrawn (their mistake) & telling me I can't have my money is pretty poor from an outfit the size of A&L- even if I do get a reasonable rate of interest & free banking.....something we should all be entitled to.
I take cash to change in Gibraltar where I'm flying in to as the rate is much better than than anywhere here - & then pay it into my account there to cover my mortgage. This saves charges when moving funds between the UK & Spain.
Just waiting for my Nationwide Account to start & will then be using that for moving funds abroad.0 -
Yeah, I have a Premier Plus account that's looking very healthy, but that made no difference! I tried the branches in Fareham & Portsmouth. Maybe it's a southern thing!?!LukeSkywalker wrote:well if you have a premier plus and you have lots of money with them then of course they'll like you!0 -
Re: activating cards, I went into the branch and used their phone to activate it
Re: withdrawing more than £250, I phoned customers services and they phoned my local post office to check they had enough cash and I collected £1000 from there0 -
my barclays banks lets me withdraw any thing up to £5000 over the counter, for over that you need two working days notice!0

Why do people put up with banks like this? There IS an alternative: I have banked with the Co-op (and now Smile) for more than five years, and really, if people knew how good they were then most of the other banks would go out of business.0

Careful Voyager; I opinioned that A&L were a bunch of shysters & that I preferred banks that offered a proper service, like smile & FD, and was told to 'take off my rose-coloured specs'. I am still unconvinced that maybe 2% interest differential on an average balance of a few hundred quid is worth the poorer service levels.Ethical moneysaver0

To call yourself a bank, and then not have more than £250 per customer available without advance notice is a joke.
A proper bank would have no problem with this kind of request - but if you will insist on using one of these micky-mouse organisations for the sake of an extra 2% interest...well, you get the service you deserve.Amazon sellers club - member number 63.
