ICE - In Case of Emergency

Mrs Stupid here! Just had a thought - probably too silly to mention - but surely the ICE idea will only work if your mobile is switched on. If the mobile is switched off, do the emergency services have some means of bypassing your password in order to gain access to your mobile's directory? Duh?if i had known then what i know now0

My cheapo Nokia has an auto lock feature that kicks in after a specified number of minutes without touching the keypad. To unlock it you have to enter the security code (or PIN).
This is a great idea in case you lose or have your phone stolen. No one can run up a huge bill on your account an noone can make annoying calls to people in your address book.
Obviously, no one can look up my ICE entry either but I hope the chances of losing my phone are higher than the chances of someone needing my ICE entry.0 -
A lot of people may want someone different calling so i think it's a great idea, i have put my brother down who will go and tell my mum so she can hear it from someone she loves as opposed to someone dealing with a situation, think of the potential for sick minds to have " a laugh" if they find your phone or steal it!

The ICE campaign sounds all well and good but has more of a feel of a passing Fad to me.
A far more beneficial method would be for more people to carry Donor cards,
these always contain a section on them to write in an important contact number in the case of an emergancy ,and if the worst case scenario happened and you were to be killed then at least many other people have the chance of having their lives improved by the act of you carrying this simple card.

After all, how many of us have "home" or "mum and dad" in our phone books? Just seems a wee bit pointless....
exactly, i've got
home
mum
mum home
mum text
dad
dad home
grandma
all the ICE emails i get go directly to my SPAM folder,0 -

This is fine, but how would emergency services know which one of these to contact. My parents are both frail and I wouldn't want them contacted, my sister doesn't drive so wouldn't be an ideal contact either. I would obviously want my husband contacting, but he's not listed as 'husband' on my phone but by his name. Surely its far easier to nominate the person(s) you want contacting by this method to speed up the process.Obsolete0 -

I agree Lola
I'd want someone to ring my husband but he's listed in my phone under a pet name I call him
not sure if that would be the 1st no emergency workers would think to phoneI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. The idea for this has come from an ambulance service and was thought up by the crews on the front line who find uncousious or injured patients and don't know who to contact. The main point is if you are unable to contact anyone who would you want them to contact first! having names is ok but if like me the wife is a name "sarah" in the phone book they don't know that? would you want perhaps your parents to know first before wife especially if they are old, (could they take the shock) and no dis-respect meant the police don't beat around the bushes !!
as to caller id its fine to have "ICE1 - sarah" and so on
even put your doctors number in
if you are suffering from any medical problems its great seizures , diabetic or anything simlar
as to pins in real emergencys pins can be got round
and finally its only worth while if as many people as possible do it it takes minutes and could be a live saver!0 -
feijoa wrote:Yes - excellent idea. Have done it on our 3 mobiles. One thought though - I've put our home phone number as the ICE contact. Should I also have an ICE2 number as an alternative - in case something happens to both of us and therefore nobody to pick up at home?0
