AOL silver package

Hello
I am on the AOL silver package and am getting downlaod speeds of 2mb.
I am a little confused because AOL seem to not advertise their packages in terms of gold and silver anymore. I pay 14.99 per month and have noticed that they are advertising 9.99 per month and then 14.99 per month after a trial period for speeds of up to 8mb. I have checked and my line is capable of 6mb. My question is am I eligible to be getting this speed on AOL silver(if it still exists).
Also, I have noticed that they are now giving customers usage limits. When I subscribed to aol I was on the understanding tha the usage was unlimited. Does this mean that I now have a limit on my downloads too?
I hope someone can clarify this. It's very confusing.

AOL silver is up to 2mb, i have been paying £9.99 for AOL silver for over a year now, i dont think they now offer silver for new customers but they may reduce the price if you ask, download limits apply to new customers0

Unless you were contacted about the changes and were offered the oppurtunity to chage packages then you are still on your old agreement which is as you signed it. Ask to change to a new package and you will have to accept the conditions of that package.0

I'm on AOL Silver 2megs. It's a ADSL1 product. It's not possible to get speeds higher than 2megs on it.
BUT....you want to see 6megs right? Well in order to see those speeds you will have to sign up to a fresh contract on AOL Wireless at £14.99.
Yes it's probably the same price as you are paying now. And your wondering...why cant they just move you over...right?
Well AOL Wireless is an up to 8meg ADSL Max product. It's like it's the next gen ADSL. That means a new contract. and if you are like me and you are OUTSIDE your 12month contract you could enquire about the 2up to 8megs WIRELESS" but you will be on a new contract for 18months.
That is why they dont offer AOL SILVER or GOLD now. The packages havent just changed in name but the type of ADSL connection they use.
Go to DSL Zone UK...go to the ADSL Max test in tools. and enter your Downstream Line Attenuation. And your Downstream Noise Margin.
If you want to find those figures...go into the settings for your router and click SHOW STATS. If you dont know how to do that....look up the model of router on the net along with the word CONFIGURATION or SETTINGS.
You should have your AOL Silver running thru your NETGEAR DG834G router. If that is the case go to: http://192.168.0.1. Enter in the USERNAME: admin....and the PASSWORD: password. And on the first page there is SHOW STATS at the bottom on the NETGEAR page.
A small frame comes up. Write down your Downstream and upstream figures for..
Sync, Line attenuation and SNR (or noise margin).
For example mine are:
Sync Speed: Down: 578kbps / Up: 288kbps.
Line Atten: Down: 14 db / Up: 3db.
Noise Mar: Down 31 db / Up: 31 db.
You can test these stats via the ADSL Max tester @: https://www.dslzoneuk.com.
Meanwhile if you are out of contract, ponder shopping around before you maybe take the plunge to go for the fresh AOL Wireless contract (18months) just to get the higher speeds.0 -
Hi
I have got my details from my router. They are:
ADSL LinkDownstreamUpstreamConnection Speed8192 kbps448 kbpsLine Attenuation25 db7 dbNoise Margin13 db29 db
Does this suggest that I am already capable of speeds of 8192kbps. I'm a little confused. I am using a NETGEAR DG834G router.
Thanks for all your help0 -
Your figures are about as good as it gets for upto 8 meg adsl max. If it's BTIpstream and not LLU you are on you should get a bRAs profile of 7150 with max speed of just under 7150 kbps.
If you post the results from here - http://speedtester.bt.com/ then we can tell if there is a problem at your end or it's your ISP.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -
AOL cap your speeds, my router connects at 7.5 meg but maximum download speed is 2meg because im on Silver package on ADSL max , seems like you are the same.0

I have tried that site several times on different days and when I enter my phone number it always comes back with an error or busy.0 -

Just starting to relaise that. I always believed that but my confusion started when a couple of people at AOL told me I should be getting 5.5mb under my current silver package.
Just spoke to anotehr guy at aol and he pretty much confirmed what you just said. I have changed my package to aol wireless and hopefully my speed will increase. They said tha tthey could not guarantee it but I thought I would give it a go. Will I be likely to see an instant increase or does it normally take a few hours/days?0 -
My boyfriend has been paying £18 a month with aol for about 7 years and were lucky to get speeds of 500kbps. Doesnt anyone have any suggestions for finding out what our line can hold as were desperate to move companies.Green and White Barmy Army!0
