Pluming quote.... ok?

I just got quoted £1,800 plus vat for my bathroom.

Is is a very small bathroomroom but he would be:

Tiling the wall halfway.
laying plyboard and tiling the floor.
supplying and fitting a new bath suite is nearly the same postion apart from the bath which is getting moved up a few inches.

This is for fitting an tiling and supplying it all.

Is this a decent quote?

Who can say with any degree of certainty.

Was your builder recommended to you, how many estimates did you get, and are you comparing like with like.

Always get at least 3 estimates. None of us can guess how much the work should be without seeing your bathroom and the problems one may encounter... So get as many free estimates as you can and that should give you a rough idea.. Also a lot depends on the style and quality of your bathroom suite and hardware. I mean taps cost from £20 to £200 etc...

plumbers charge from £150 to £250 per day depending on the job and location.

I would expect you job to take 4 days or £600 to £1000 in labour. as said previously, the materials can vary widely in cost. baths can range from £199 to £1999.

i would expect a bath to cost around £300, wash basin £100, taps £100, tiling £10 per sqm, toilet £100, the flooring range from £10 to £40 per sqm, ply £50, flexi-grout about £70.

as you see it all adds up very quickly

You can get a nice suite for under £300 at most plumbers merchants. say £100 for bits and bobs.£300 for tiles.£600 for plumber and tiler.
I would reckon unless you've went for something really fancy or your plumber also does the Beckhams and Elton John then you should be able to skim £500 or so off that price quoted ;)

    Is this a decent quote?

This is about as much as I payed a few years ago to have my bathroom and en-suite done at the same time. Both rooms involved a lot of work, stripping floorl to ceiling tiles on all walls, plastering, fitting new sanitary ware and electric shower. I did buy all of the fittings before hand, so the price was pretty much labour and minimal materials.

All in all, it doesn't seem too bad a quote you've got.

Your 3 biggest plumbers merchants- Grahams, PTS and Plumb Center all do a nice suite for around £175 +Vat
    inc taps and wastes.

An 8x4 sheet of ply is around £20

You can get nice floor andwall tiles for between £5 and £10 per M sq.

£100 should cover plumbing fittings ,tile adhesive and grout.

do your own measuring and buying, add on 10%- you can always take extra tile packs back for a refund if not used.

Get a couple of other quotes for labour

    £3 - 400 is reasonable for plumber
    Tiler £15- 20 per M sq

You said its a small bathroom so I reckon my original est of £1300 should be MAX

If looking for tradesmen go and visit a lettings office and ask for their recommendations. They rely on good regular tradesmen.

I just bought a buy to let in Liverpool and got all my tradesmen from the lettings co recommendations.

You can always say you are thinking of letting but need some plumbing work done before etc etc

    Worth a shot....
