I can't believe you even think that she is any way better off than you:eek:   Surely you can't be that materialistic and shallow, I know you can't;)
I bet she is jealous of your two lovely kids, and would give up all the pretentious designer claptrap for a lovely family like you have.:D :D:D ps have a wicked time in Blackpool, it's a great night out, and you deffo don't need designer gear to go out on the lash there!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

The only thing is, she's probably even deeper in debt than you are. There's no way she has that amount of disposable income on 21k a year, so you can rest assured that in a couple of years you'll be debt free and she'll be deep in the doodoo!

Hi hon - I went through a similar period having kids young, not working so we were on one income and having to worry about mortgage payments etc. While alot of my friends were spending their money on designer boots/purses and lots of nights out I bought hardly anything and went hardly anywhere. They still lived with mum and dad and so had lots of cash to splash on themselves.

Howveer, now the tables have turned somewhat and while they've struggled to get on the property ladder - we're comfortably there and have savings in the bank.

I know you have debts and they must be the priority - thou as a lover of fashion I know it can be tough! I'd advice staying out of temptations way and not even going shopping. Allow yourself a mini primark blow out every season - you can get heaps of clothes, shoes, bags for £60! And its the fashion now to be thrifty! I know a girl whos dad is a multi millionaire and she drips with chanel etc but still brags about a £4 bargain from primark and wheres an argos necklace!

This girl you aspire to live like will have a shock when she has a family and that disposible income disappears. Some of my friends are adamant that they cant afford kids - yet we managed our first year with baby on hubbys student loan (last year at uni). I shopped at kwiksave and a dvd rental was a treat! Now we really feel like we're living the high life - as you will when you've got down some debts and your income ups/childcare costs lower.

Incidently do you pay for childcare for your little ones? When I was working I earnt £20K and after childcare/travel/lunches/loss of tax credits etc we worked out that we were better off me staying at home with the little ones. Just a thought - not sure how you feel about your job but I loved my job, still as fantastic as it was it wasnt worth doing for nothing!

  • Hi Roxie,

We looked into me not working and they said that because they work off the previous years salary we would still only be entitled to the £40 per month.
My 7 month old has childcare, but how very dfw of me to plan on giving birth just before the 6 weeks holidays to allow me not to have to pay for my 5 year old last summer.
For my recent interview i also brought a suit which was £108 and then took it back a couple of days later. he he :)

    Hi there,

Just wanted to say - I am that woman! I'm your well dressed boss, with the nice shoes and the gorgeous handbag (and no kids). But what you don't realise...

    1) I'm also an obsessive money saver and I buy it all on ebay! Seriously, from designer bags to toothbrushes, I don't pay full price for anything.

    2) Before I had my LBM I was funding all the full-priced handbags with credit cards. At my highest I owed £11,000 thanks to lots of self-discipline and a boos who's generous with the salary increases I've now got it down to £4500 at 0% and should, no, WILL, be debt free by Christmas!

I just wanted to say that the others might be right - she probably will have debt. And secondly that to look good on a budget you don't always have to end up in Primark, honestly, ebay has some real gems (especially new unused clothes from the likes of Monsoon, and another of my favourites, Boden).

Just thought I'd offer some support because I know where you're coming from - looking polished does give you so much confidence. You just need to know how to do it! As I said I use ebay a lot, the other thing I do is have a constant running list of thing I want/need. That gives me time to think about them, see if I still want them in a month's time, and then I've got a ready made list for when the sales come round, and I stick to it. I do find that I cross most of it off as a whim though! But it does work for things you do still want - for example in the autumn I wanted a pair of black patent heels to update my work outfits. I then made it a challenge to get them as cheap as possible! To use these as an example, the first pair I wanted and didn't buy (but would have two years ago) cost £80. Eventually, with much looking, I found and REAL leather (plastic patent = smelly feet!) and with various reductions, deals and offers, I brought them in at £28! A fraction of the price, and wow, it's so satisfying when you get just what you want but wait for it and save for it and get it at a really good price. I cherish them now because I put so much effort into finding them.

Anyway, good luck with everything! And no I''m not as shallow as I sound - I love a good handbag, but true happiness for me is a (free) cosy evening in with the BF having a home-cooked meal and a giggle. I'm sure you feel the same about your kids.

Never try and keep up with the Jones'. They're probably in way more debt than you are.
  • Well on a positive I went to the hairdressers today and my normal hairdresser charges approx £60 today I got mine and my daughters cut for £32 and that included some hair product. I'm getting there and my hair now looks alot better than my bosses. Really looking forward to going to work tomorrow to show it off. How sad am I??? Might find out about that job tomorrow too!!
  • Hi MoneyMaker,

Not going to go on about the past issue too much, like you say just a blip and I am sure that we have all been there and done that.

Just wanted to say good luck for today and I hope you get the job!
  • Hey, I think I'm jealous of your boss too!

Seriously, don't be jealous of other people. I worked with someone who had a 50" plasma, gameboys, Xbox, holidays........................all that jazz. Anyhow, visited her house and it was unclean, filthy and had dog hairs everywhere! Underneath all the trappings of a luxury lifestyle, she was living like a skank!

Somehow, her consumer goods didn't seem so good after I'd seen them covered in dust and in a room stinking of dog pee.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
  • There's a 24 year old woman who works on my department and she has a practically brand new car. 16k's worth of it.She has caribbean holidays, is out every weekend, constantly spends hundreds a month on her phone bill, forever at the hairdressers. She doesnt earn as much as me as I'm a supervisor, her mortgage is larger and she smokes like a chimney. I found out the other day she has DCA's knocking at her door and her parents bought her the car! They've already bailed her out over 9k's worth of debts and she claims she has run up another 16k! To be perfectly honest, she makes me sick. No one has every done anything like that for me. Everything around me is mine.No one has ever bailed me out or subsidised my life. Her next plan is to have a baby. I wish her every luck in the world for when reality bites, but people like that never really have to have a LBM because Daddy will always sort it out.

Am I bitter? Possibly. Am I jealous of her car? Hell yes.

So I just keep out of her way. Karma is a b1tch.
