  • For how long though? It is £3500.....which is a lot more than say 700 for an older one....

How much could you actually get for your car? Just had a quick scout on ebay..depending on what yours is condition/mileage/if its a fancy valver :P they seem to be advertised for 3500-4500 up to 6000.

I personally would do it, it would help you out quite a bit!

But obviously it is up to you :)

It's the fact you have a few grand wasting in the value of your car. Sell it, use a few grand to pay off some of the debt and buy another one at £500-800. The insurance will be less as it is worth less.

"I need my Car for my job as have to get there and travel to different properties ( I am a deputy manager of a care home so have to do shifts and 24hour on call duties so its a essential)..."

Sounds like they ought to pay you a lot more than 17k for a job with that amount of responsibility and unsocial hours.

Having said that - the car is costing you £230 a month not counting
repairs, servicing and car tax. Adding £30 a month for that we're talking £260 a month, more than £10 per working day. Are you sure you can't combine buses and taxis? If you are called in to work when buses are not running your employers should actually pay for a taxi.

    sorry dont understand mary ppi?

I think they mean Payment Protection Interest, Andrew. I hadn't a clue what it meant either so I googled ppi and that's what came up where car insurances are concerned.

Some good advice to consider though!

  • Just a thought but if you are on call do you get a petrol allowance. i have a friend who does a similar job and she gets a mileage allowance, also as car is related to work you should also recieve something towards other expenses like car tax and insurance payments. You are doing a valuable job which they should recognise after all would they be able to rely on you as much if you couldn't get there in an emergency. The other thought which occured to me is the same regarding mobile phones- is that job related as well?Would they reimburse you for reasonable work calls? its all tax deductable for them and so should be reasonable to ask for them if you are entitled.
