A friend gave me a hyacinth plant while still in bud. When it came out it had to go and live outside ......
  • M&S used to do a "fresh linen" room spray which is absolutely gorgeous.Smells like fresh laundry thats just been brought inside, you know the way it does when it still has the smell of the fresh air clinging to it.Dont know if they still do it but something like that would just make the place smell fresh and clean.
I would have a vase of flowers too, something subtle and not too overpowering, perhaps some fragranced roses or paperwhites.Avoid lillies, freesias(sp) and hyacinths as these can be really strong and buyers may think you are trying to cover up something nasty like dampness.
Dont have pot-pourri if you have a cat,its likely to try and use it as a toilet.

A tip someone once gave me regarding furniture polish, is spray some around the door frames. When you open the door a nice fresh "clean" smell will hit you. Worth a try.

Neutrogena do some gel air freshners that don't smell bad, they absorb smells well - my parents use them (and they have a old very smelly cat) and it hides the smell. Lemons in the kitchen is a good idea as many people associate the smell with "clean".

This thread is worth looking at for candles and wax melts (from the special occassions board)

I would say burn some essential oils (Holland and Barrett often have offers on lavender) in a burner
  • I'd say don't use the plug in things. They can be very overpowering and personally I'd assume you had something to hide. Also for people with asthma or breathing problems they can trigger an attack. I have to say if I was faced with a fresh one of these in a house I was viewing I'd not be able to stick it for long.

Personally I think the opening windows followed by tumble dryer sheet down the back of the radiator is best. I love essential oils and candles etc but again if I found something like that burning I'd be immediately suspicious :)
  • Put some tumble dryer sheets on the warm radiators before the viewers come.Remember to move them for the viewings.
