Tiscali Current Customer Con!!!!!!!

Hi ,
Just thought i would alert any Tiscali customers to a problem i experienced today. I have been paying over the odds for my broadband package for months now [im new to moneysaving!]. Upon discovering that new customers are paying much much less than me i called only to be advised that it is the customers responsibility to notice changes in pricing and if they dont they will be charged the higher rate!! Please check your price package if you are a Tiscali customer! I think this is the worst way possible to treat customers , don't be a chump like me!!

Sadly that's how most companies treat customers - lethargic existing customers subsidising special offers for new ones.
Hence life as an MSEer tends to be a bit nomadic

I have found that even when you call and request the lower rate, and they promise to implement it, they don't! If only it wasn't such a load of hassle changing, I'd be gone [0

I've changed providers quite a number of times now - after the first couple, I decided it would be much easier if I had a static e-mail address. I used to go through a company called bigfoot.com but then they started restricting useage and charging for the decent packages, so I've now got my own domain name - you can get them for only a couple of pounds per year, and incorporates web forwarding, automated message replies, etc, and its easy enough to set up "disposable" e-mail addresses for entering competitions, etc.
This way, even if you do change provider, you don't need to change your e-mail address, or website address if you have one and set it up beforehand (which I haven't ) you simply change where your domain address points to.
HTH.

I would also recommend setting yourself up with an email address not tied to a particular ISP.
I use 1&1 to do this and for the cost of about £12 a year including the domain fees, it makes migrating to a different ISP very painless:

Thanks

Thanks for that. I am defo moving from Tiscali but i wonder just how many customers are paying way over the odds like i was. I really am astounded that they do that!
Still i guess i will learn.....0 -
Before you sign up with this lot, surf the web for "information" about their rather sharp business practices contained in over 20 pages of legalise small print. Such as they automatically renew and charge you for domains at the end of the period, rather than giving you the choice......they will then suspend fully paid up domains until you pay them for domains you dont want any more.......avoid.gavinp wrote:I would also recommend setting yourself up with an email address not tied to a particular ISP.

However I broadly agree with the principle espoused above.....buy your domain eg https://www.froggitt.co.uk, and use the control panel to forward it to your current ISP eg everything@froggitt.co.uk to froggitt@tiscali.co.uk. Then if you move away from Tiscali, as I would heartily recommend everyone to do so, just repoint in your control panel eg to froggitt@wanadoo.co.uk
You should be able to get a domain with this facility for less than a fiver a year.illegitimi non carborundum0 -

I can only talk from personal experience but I have been using them as a paying customer for three years without any problems along with four other people I know well (i.e. not "friends of friends")..
They are one of the largest hosting companies in Europe - are all the alleged "sharp practices" limited to domain renewals ?
I would suspect that most people would be happier having their domain automatically renewed (.uk domains cost under £5 for two years) than to wake up one day and find someone else now owns their domain ?
Thanks

I too am with 1&1 and never had any problems, although I only have the domain with them, not the e-mail - with the e-mail forwarding, I don't feel the need to have the extra e-mail add-on - I've got a decent enough sized e-mail box with my internet provider anyway - if I change provider, I just change the place my forwarding is pointing to. I would seriously consider them though if I wanted to upgrade to include more options.0

gavinp - so long as you are in there with your eyes wide open, thats fine for you. All Im saying is have a surf and see what you find.......my problems are limited to domain renewal, but others have more serious problems.illegitimi non carborundum0
