I was out of the country when your wonderful news was published so belated congratulations; it's very reassuring in these times that there can be good things amongst all the negatives items.

I'm sure we'll now see a calm and restrained series of postings on all the MSE lessons being applied in the planning for the big day....

(AS IF!!! Enjoy it and keep sharing :D:D:D:D )
  • PO - where have you gone?! Have you keeled over from all the excitement?!!

No, but I did just lose a lengthy post telling you what's going on and coq au vin has to be a priority right now!

    Will catch up after dinner!!!!

  • OK so it's after breakfast not after dinner, but here's a catch-up anyway. :D

All still heading for 24th Jan - subject to an exam which OH needs to do back home, the date of which we are not at all certain (looks like 18th Jan which would work!)

Bit of a job dilemma - two senior posts have come up at work - both will be internal appointments. Not sure what the take-up will be but I know for definite of two. I'm thinking of applying too - it would make a massive difference to my salary - probably would almost double my take-home pay which would mean I could make mincemeat of my mortgage (NB seasonal reference!) But when I didn't get the post I went for in the summer it floored me completely emotionally (pathetic wimp, I know, but it's so hard not to see it as a vote of no confidence!) and I lost a lot of confidence. I did go on to get another promotion though, the experience of which would help for the new post. I have management experience so I would be a contender, it's just what if I didn't get it????? I know it would be easier because OH is here now to support me but it's just the what ifs.................

Haven't been able to OP for ages so will probably not make my £2000 target this year. Hope to get a bit closer than where I am currently though. However, I have high hopes for next year as once we are married, OH will be able to work too and I may get the other job. Oh! Looks like I've decided to go for it then!

Anyway, hope all well, have a great mfw sunday!

Take the money out of the equation PO - if the pay was the same, would you still be thinking of applying? There's more to life than money, and we spend too much of each week at work not to enjoy - so far as is possible - what we are doing, IMO.

Good luck with making the decision anyway.

Have to agree with EH on the need to enjoy (some aspects of) the job, but, consider also the signal that applying gives to your management i.e. a desire to develop your career, even if they appoint someone else. Choosing not to apply may send the wrong message... no easy answer I'm afraid, but either way best wishes in the decision.

(BTW when would the interviews take place, not too close to 16-24 Jan I hope in consideration of your other plans?)

Hmmmmmmm - letters of intent have to be in by the 18th Dec I think, and interviews would be in in January , so at least if I failed there would be great stuff going on to take my mind off it all!

I would like the job - when I came back to the UK I took on something much more low key than I had had before I went to France , and have throroughly enjoyed it. I did get a promotion, but because of the nature of the job and the nature of me I kind of end up doing a lot more than I am paid to do. This promotion would be management but a whole lot less stress than what I was doing before I left the UK, and to be honest I think I'll get bored staying put. The other consideration is that the service I work for is a great job - there will not be many opportunities to progress because I think people just won't leave (it's only been running 16 months) - everybody LOVES it!

Will go for it and see what happens.

    Happy Eid!
