  • Would I be able to connect the Cello to my laptop or would I need the Strato to do that? http://www.johnlewis.com/230447163/Product.aspx

I don't think the Cello has a PC socket and it only has one scart socket which you will need to connect PVR. However, I would suggest it is the PVR rather than the TV you would want to connect to laptop?

I would have a word with the man in John Lewis and maybe take your PC in and ask him to show you how.

  • Erm... I only want to connect my laptop to the TV screen once per month so that I can view the magazine I publish in larger size.

Without knowing what connections you have on your laptop it is difficult to say for sure.

The Strato says it has a PC socket, it is not clear from the description but I guess that is a VGA port? That is really for a desktop PC where one would simply take the lead which normally connects to the screen and plug it into the TV.

You would need a lead to connect from whatever port you have on your laptop and connect this to the VGA port on the TV. http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1470932454.1202676007@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdgadedfiefhmecflgceggdhhmdgmj.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=068537&category_oid=

Alternatively if you get a lead to connect from your laptop to SCART you could connect it to any PVR or TV.

I suggest you take your laptop and ask the man in John Lewis. They sell the necessary cables as do PC World and Comet.

I don't want to bore people because I've said this before but if you want to listen on a sound system then do check the outputs. I recently bought an all in one which only had analogue mono from a scart!!!.Loads of inputs though.

  • yes there are, as far as I know, two LCD TVs out there with built-in recorders and freeview. The LG 32LT75 and one from a company called Humax.

I bought the LG at christmas for around 500 squid and was very impressed. It has twin freeview tuners so you can watch one freeview channel and record another, and a built-in TV guide (like the tv times on your screen) where you can record a program or complete series/episodes. Easy to use, super picture quality and good remote.

Because of the layout of my room there wasnt any room for other external boxes such as freeviews/pvrs/amps etc so this was the obvious choice.
  • Thanks for the help. Looks like I cant get a 19inch all in 1? So which PVR would you guys recommend and do you think this TV is OK? http://www.johnlewis.com/230447163/Product.aspx
  • Hi

I was checking these things out on the www and recalled one that fits your description on the shopping channel, ideal world. It can record two channels at the same time and pause etc. You can also subscribe to a movie channel for £5.00 a month. The website is www.idealworldtv.com

    Hope this helps

  • Thanks but I solved this problem about 9 months ago! I bought a small Sony Bravia TV with a Sky TV package with a free Sky + Box :)
