  • I cannot believe what happened to us today. Am so gutted.

Yesterday Sam paid a removal guy that he found on yell.com to take a load of rubbish from our back garden (we're spring cleaning early!) and this guy charged 50.00.
Today we had the council at the door, saying that we were being prosecuted for flytipping. when we explained we had done nothing of the sort, they produced a pizza box with our surname and address on, and said that this was found in the flytipping.

Turns out, the guy that sam had paid to remove the rubbish has taken it and dumped it in someones back garden, and now the council have given us a fixed penalty of £180.00!!! Sam explained that we had paid someone, and they said unless we provide a receipt, we are responsible. I looked to Sam....... NO RECEIPT.

Don't know where we stand on this - I called the removal company and said that this was not fair as we paid them in good faith, and asked if I could forward the council charge onto him for payment - he said yes - but what if he doesn't actually pay it?

    Hi Kelly,

No idea what to say about the £180 fine, but whatever happens (and keep trying to get those that committed the act to pay up) do try to get rid of your rubbish weekly and by yourselves if possible - or someone you can trust! Whatever rubbish or recycling you put out though it should NEVER have your name and address on any of it, so do be careful there. Think twice when putting all paper and cardboard out for *recycling* (important word that) remove name and address first!!

You're not having a very good DFW are you! It'll remain that way IF you go on having pizzas delivered rather than buying them in shops and cooking them yourself. Why buy the boys a DVD now, why not wait until Easter or their Birthdays, Christmas even! We've only just got over the last one! More wasted money Kelly! Lunches at work are going to cost you a bomb if you're not really firm with yourself and you HAVE to be if you're to keep your heads above water. Valentine's Day doesn't mean you have to spend money you haven't got either! My OH and I have never once bought anything for each other as it's a waste when we share our love for each other every day of the year, but if you feel you wish to give something then why not go for something cheaper or perhaps less expensive sounds better. Cards for it all cost a mint and what happens to them afterwards?!

Whenever you're going to to spend out, stop and ask yourself IS IT NECESSARY!

Lecture over now, but seriously - be VERY careful and don't rely on money that isn't yet in your hands!!!

    Sue.

  • Oh Sue,

I know, I should really be more careful.
We honestly do try to get rid of our rubbish and stop it building up, but it's a nightmare at the minute. We live in an area where they are trialing new rubbish removal systems and we currently only get refuse collections every other week. On the alternating week they take our recycling in the bins. Sadly a wheelie bin doesn't hold two weeks worth of rubbish and it soon builds up.

The moneysaving has been silly this week - it really isn't usually like this. We are going to be more careful (especially as money will run out soon). To be honest, I've not kept too close an eye on the bank account as I don't want to ruin any surprises - its my Birthday on Sunday. Once that's over though, I'll be able to stop Sam spending without my knowledge and take control again.

I'm still going to have a bash at reducing some of my utility bills this weekend and try to sell some things on ebay - sure we have some kids videos or the like that we could get rid of.

Thanks Sue for your advice (and occasional slapped wrist when I need it), it means an awful lot to me.xx

Good, cause there'll be plenty more where they came from IF you don't buckle down and get debt free! ;)

Same here with the 'every other week' recycling, though we live up on a bank so can only get small tubs to use so we take most of ours to the Council 'tip' every fortnight.

I know it can be difficult at times to hold back from spending, but we've all got to do it if the DF Wannabe is to become WILL BE or preferably DF OVERCOMERS. Just think of me glaring at you every time you're tempted!!!:money::mad:

Have a great weekend spending free! Good luck in finding things for ebay.

Hi Sue, Gonna have to behave, aren't I if you're going to be keeping a watchful eye on me!
Had a very good day today, only put some petrol in the car to go and visit my Grandma who lives 25 miles away. Sam's been finishing off decorating our bedroom, so he hasn't spend anything either. We are going for a birthday meal tomorrow with the in laws, so we might end up spending a little tomorrow though. Are you up to anything nice this weekend?

Owen passed his badge at gymnastics today - he's only 4 and already passed his first stage! Gooooo Oweeeee.....!
    Have a great weekend, everyone!x

Congratulations young Owen!!!!! There's a clever little lad, he's like his Mum, a determined little chap (not his Mum, just the same heading with the determined bit). I'm pleased your day was well spent, bring some pleasure to the life of another too, good for you.
    :bdaycake:A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Kelly!:bdaycake:

I hope you're day is a very special one and that the year to follow is a GREAT one!

Love & best wishes, Sue xxx

  • Thank you sooo much, Sue, it's been a lovely day! I was given a necklace and a boots voucher from Sam and the boys, and Sam's mum and dad bought me a watch, a rug for the bedroom and two bedside table lamps. We went out for a meal this afternoon, and I had a delicious roast beef dinner. They didn't let us buy a single drink (very dfw!!) although of course we contibuted towards the cost of the meal. My brother popped round this evening, and he had bought me a lovely mocha vase and cream candle for the bedroom. I will have to remember to be decorating next year, so that everyone knows what to get me!
