I was advised by a friend (as well several other internet sources) to put latex self leveling compound over the underfloor heating which makes it easier to put the tiles down onto rather adhesive straight on to the wires as well as protecting it from being damaged.
  • We are about to lay the cream ones from B&Q - thanks for the tips! :o
We are aware that the tiles need sealing on the front polished face but does the back (non-polished) face too to stop the adhevisve staining the tile?

If you are tiling over it then you would just use flexible tile adhesive, IMHO. Do you have any links showing where it suggests both? The only reference I have found so far talks about both flexible self-levelling screen and tile adhesive but in the context of timber floor finishes and tiles respectively.

I wouldn't have thought so. The right adhesive in the right colour won't stain the tile. I think you are concerned about the adhesive showing through on the pale tiles. That is down to the colour of the adhesive and the skill used in fitting.

Couple of links below about SLC on underfloor heating, there are other threads on the same forum. Some people think its a good idea, others crack on just with flexible adhesive, obviously I have already made my choice :)

Just to rebump this thread - I have just laid the black porcelain 600mm ones from B&Q, have sealed them with Plasplugs Porcelain Tile Sealer, followed the instructions to the letter, but some of the tiles have like a greasy haze over them which won't seem to polish off

Any ideas how to get this off please? :)

I'm about to use HG Marble Impregnator on some marble wall tiles, the bottle states to use a roller or cloth for application - any problem if I use a paint brush?? To later clean roller / cloth / brush, must I use turpentine or is white spirit any good?

    Thank you in advance

Change it for Lithofin Stain Stop MN. It's head and shoulders above the HG products.

Hey Everyone, I Own a Tile Shop, This Product from B&Q does need sealing, The people that are saying it is crap, need to get the facts right. There is two Polished Porcelains on the market, One is a normal one and one is called Soluble Salt. The one from B&Q is the latter. Therefore it needs to be sealed. The product itself is a bargain for what it is.This product in a normal retailer will be in the excess of approx £29.99 a mtre Sq. Therefore after purchasing the sealer its still a bargain. The product is from china which is treue, however 80% of the polished porcelain products are from there. if it is not then it will retail in the region of 49.99. If anyone has any questions plese feel free to ask as i will try my hardest to reply
    Thank U

we are having problems with these tiles 600x600 black, masking tape as pulled a line in the tile and we are unable to clean it off. B&Q say we did not buy them from them because we cannot find reciept. can u recommend cleaner to take back to tile.
  • I have had these B & Q tiles down in the kitchen for 6 months now and have not had any problems at all. The store made it very clear with signs and advice regarding the need to seal them before and after laying. For every day cleaning I simply use a damp micro fibre cloth with no detergent at all - just wrung out in hot water. The tiles dry to a lovely shine and are completely smear free. Black is always going to be high maintenance as it shows every speck of dust - so may not be the best choice for kitchens in busy homes with kids etc., but they are worth the effort - they look fantastic!
