Except for the policy book and web site that clearly indicate the price will go up if a driver gets their full licence. There is a reason for this increase its due to the fact that many young drivers with full licences will be claiming off their insurance thus they are a very high risk.[/quot
Can you see something that I can't, because I have looked thru all of my sons documentation from quinn and it does not state that there will be a substantial increase in premium on passing a driving test. They do say about extra premiums for changes in vehicle but we know that anyway.Other insurance websites may be different but I was referring to Quinn. IMHO i think there should be additional paperwork attatched to policy documents of provisional licence holders to warn them. I am well aware of the risk and the reasons for the increase but my grievance is that it is not clear enough , and also the large amounts of extra money involved. It appears we are not the only ones that have been caught out by this.

I'd heard about this from a friend (who cancelled a Quinn policy when she queried thsi and found they would add £1000 to the price!), so I did my research on the basis of a full licence. This probably means that I paid to much for the time he was on a provisional licence as the price was unchanged when he got his licence.

Yes it is in the policy book regarding an increased premium for licence upgrades. I suppose when you contacted the company you shouted abuse at the person on the other end of the phone due to your own mistakes.
  • what not get your daughter to do her pass plus costs about £120 BUT in the long run insurance companies offer 30% off if they do this course. this also takes your daughter on some motorway training.

I thought pass pluss gave more like a 5% discount?

I am on a provisional and taking out churchill insurance with £100 cashback from quidco.

I have been assured that I will not have my rate re-evaluated until the 12 months is up, even if I pass my test in the mean time.
  • Hi, this is my first time on here. I joined after reading this thread and thought I would tell you about the problem I am currently having with RAC car insurance!
My partner and I bought a Ford Puma in May and insured it with RAC. My partner (who is 32) has been driving for 4 years but as a named driver so has no no claims. I myself was put on as a named driver on a provisional licence (I am 30 years old). The insurance cost us £1440 spread over 10 months.
I then passed my driving test last month - horray I originally thought!
However, my partner then did the correct procedure of letting RAC know of this change. They proceeded to tell him that we can no longer be insured with them unless we cancel our current policy (of which to date we have paid £970 for 6 months) which will cost us over £300 (erm...we only have £470 left to pay!) and then take out a completely new policy at the cost of £2700!! We cannot afford this!
How in God's name can they possibly justify this? We are hard working parents, not teenage joyriders!! I have found another company who will insure us for £1600 but we are stuck as we cannot possibly afford to pay the cancellation fee as well as downpayment for a new policy. Furthermore, I am now still uninsured and can therefore not get to and from work and so can not earn!! I have been a provisional driver for 13 years, I then do the right thing of passing my test and seem to be penalised for doing so!!
Any advice or guidance as to what we could do would be much appreciated!!

First thing you should do is start your own thread, this one is 3 years old and may not attract the people you need to help you.

I would think it will probably be at least several hundred pounds.
And how do you come up with that figure? Please let me know

    Thanks
