How much car insurance premium increase on passing driving test?

Options
My daughter is on my wife's car insurance as a named driver. She takes her driving test next week and on checking with the insurance company (Quinn Direct) that she is covered to take the test in my wife's car they said that if she passes her test she should not drive alone until they have been informed and increased the premium. The increase will be because she will be driving unsupervised. They could not or would not say how much the increase would be until she has passed her test and they have been informed.

I am just wondering how much this increase might be so if anybody has had this situation can you give me an idea how much the increase might be please.
Regards
erb :)

I work in car insurance and in my experience I have seen the premium go up by a couple of hundred. I thought this was just with my company but quite a few friends who work in insurance have said the same thing. Im assuming its because theyd be a higher risk as theyd be driving alone
    £10 a day in Feb £55/£290....

My insurance went up £5 when my dd passed in November, the policy only had 2 months left so for a full year I presume it would have been around £60.
I'm with diamond and me and dd share my 1.0 corsa - I use it daily and she uses it about 3 times a week, the insurance for the year is £670, I've only got one year's no claims as I had an accident 16 months ago.

I would think it will probably be at least several hundred pounds.

I did a dummy quote with directline for my 17 year old son. It was identical with a provisional and a full licence. Hope they stick to that because I have taken the policy out obviously with a provisional licence and don't want it to increase any further.

The good news is that my daughter passed her driving test today:T .

The not so good news is that the insurance premium went up £152 for the next 5 months so this is an extra £365 per annum:eek: .

An extra £152 is not too bad you got off lighter than many would have.

Mine never went up at all when DD passed her test. And I did tell them.
  • my son also passed his test this week & we are with quinn - we had to pay an extra £245 for the 6 months left on the policy
