InsureSupermarket just gave me a blank screen after employment details - twice!
Confused wanted claims figures - which I didn't have - so put in ballpark figures but then it wouldn't take 'Spouse' as appropriate for my 'Married' wife as second driver!
I really appreciate Martin's advice on his e-mail and radio slots but I feel it's time to do it the old fashioned way and hit the 'phones!
Cheers

I have tried with no success to get quotes from confused.com for 7 days.
I keep getting an error message after detailing convictions page. (punished enough already!)
I have contacted them, they say they are happy to help, but cant over the phone.
I send my details via e-mail but have only received the phone number of Admiral Sales. (give good quote but difficult to compare) (check for high xs)
I'm not the quickest with a phone directory but even I could have got better results.
I tried throughout the day yesterday with the same result so sent some e-mails to them! (awaiting reply)
My insurance is due today so I will be doing my own research again.
I find it difficult to compare reults as so many variables its hard to get a level playing field. I guess you must decide whats important to you level of xs, courtesy car etc and get matching quotes. easier said than done.
Great idea but it didn't work for me, yet, still working on it though!0 -
Brilliant!
I used confused.com and got my insurance down from a whacking £782 to under £500
Thank you, thank you, thank you0 -
Not sure if this has been mentioned before, although I did search the threads first.
I renewed my car insurance yesterday and having neglected to save over the past 12 months needed to pay it in monthly installments. I went through confused.com to find the cheapest quotes etc but this did not include privilege, for which I had recently seen an advert.
So I got a qoute from their website and not only was it marginally cheaper (£20) than the best qoute I had managed to get so far, they did not charge any interest for paying by monthly installments.
So I think in Martin's article perhaps it should not read NEVER pay monthly rather NEVER pay monthly unless you are with PRIVILEGE.
Hope this helps someone.0 -
just used Martins advice and filled all my details in with confused.com. Was fairly straight forward to use and came back with a couple of quotes which were roughly £80 cheaper than my re-newal quote with churchill. Then went to the sainsburys website and tried them and got further discounts for being online and paying via a sainsburys credit card.
Printed all the quotes out and got on the phone to churchill to see what they could do. They said that they are not a price beating company but said they would see what they could do. Two mins later said that they would cut the renewal price by £90 just like that! Happy bunny! Still slightly more expensive than sainsburys but no hastle of having to deal with whole new company.
Guess that it really does do to shop around and haggle!!!Every Penny's a Prisoner!!0 -
Note that you should only do this if she is in fact the main driver, ie drives more miles in the vehicle than you do. Otherwise they have quoted on incorrect info from you, which could lead to problems with any future claims. You say yourself you're a bad risk: one accident when you're driving they might not quibble over, but have too many more than that and questions may be asked.
Just to add to above. NEVER put someone else on the policy as a main driver on the policy if they are not. Claims if they arise will be turned down and the insurance considered null and void from inception and premiums refunded......BEWARE.......0 -

Easy Car Insurance is new to the market but its policies are underwritten by Zurich who are one of ther best insurers for claims so don't be put off..0 -
The best way to improve premiums though is to make sure your insurer has all the correct details - marital status, occupatio, mileage, parking.
Somethings may seem small and irrelevent, but I had a chap who reduced his mileage by 200 miles a year, and it lopped £150 off his policy.
But the occupation is a biggy.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Martin, thanks for pointing out the additional costs involved in direct debit payments. Elephant.co.uk quoted me over £100 for direct debit (although they originally came out cheaper).
Also note: I just moved and they charged me £10 for changing my address. I could find no reference to this charge in their leaflet, other than it was a legal requirement to tell them.
I've just checked out insuresupermarket and Quinn Direct came out £200 cheaper for this year's insurance.I work all night and work all day to pay the bills I have to pay, but still there never seems to be a single penny left for me!0 -
