Just got back from Dunelms in Preston and they had a couple of cream console tables reduced from £150 to £30! Lovely table with two drawers.

There was a couple of chips to the paintwork but nothing one of our talented lot couldn't sort out.

Pity I don't have any room left!

  • Looking good Sootypea. Okay you lot out there in shabby chic land. I am keen to get going but still in a quandery over what paint to use. Very short of cash so could really only go for Dulux or Crown. I assume I need Wood paint, or is that cupboard paint. Also do I use a primer or just sand it down. Looking at doing wood items and also melamine and other types of whatever. Sorry about the technical terms!!!. Would really appreciate your help on this guys so I can get going. Am a little nervous as 'im indoors is not confident about my ideas.

We have one very similar to that in the hall, although without the twiddly bits on the shelves. My Royal Albert lives on it!

Do you buy mounts or make your own?
Need advice please on displaying my Redoute Roses to look their best. Need frames too.
Hi - i've got six postcards of my Aunts fantastic seaside sketches in my bathroom - i picked up some white frames from Ikea, they sell them in 2 pack (post card type size), they also do them in pine, cheap too about £2 pack - they look really effective in the bathroom and looks chic 'cos the frames match!

i also keep a look out for frames in charity shops - the frames are often really well made & already mounted inside - and often tucked away in a box selling for 50p!

    good luck! ;)

The thing with the charity ones is that you can have different sizes and styles, but pull them together by painting them all the same colour.

that's true - also they are a lot nicer and better quality than the run-off-the mill clip frames...also usually a lot cheaper! can't believe the price of frames! my OH is a part-time photographer and we sell our pics at local markets etc - you'd be suprised how rubbish some of the frames are we've managed to pic up along the way - some of which were expensive and not mounted...or lined - we now use lining paper as the paper that comes with the frames show's the writing through and looks naff!

oh, woolies is also good for the triple type frames

with wood you should be ok to sand it down, and then to sugar soap and then paint...

i have always used DULUX style paints, but i know threr are people who are on here who would disagree...

with the melamine, please look for a link that someone has put on the page before this, a product called E.S.P... the link is in bluse and says this... they may have quoted me in the reply as i couldn't remember the name the other day. i do believe B&Q stock it, (and they normally have really useful people dotted about if you need halp...)
