The prices are for 30 lenses, not 30 pairs so you only get about 2 weeks worth in each box. They do offer a Focus Dailies box of 90 lenses for £25.99 which would work out at £17.33 per month, which must be one of the cheapest though.
    Hi
I've used contactforlenses twice. First time no problems, but the second time only received part of the order and six weeks later and after several emails both ways I'm still being told they are on there way. Luckily I also have glasses!!!!!
Would love to here that I am the only one with this problem, but if anyone else has suffered similar please let me know.
So Sam, Yes contactforlenses are cheap but from my personal experience I will not be using tham again, but, remember my first order went through without a hitch.

Right, little background. I'm not an optician, but a couple summers back I had an eye infection that left me with a week in hospital, slightly less than a month of eyepatch time and so forth.

I get my contact lenses from my local optician's. As part of Scotland's new free eye tests, I had the free checkup about half a month back, and then we chatted for 5 minutes about contacts. He did mention places such as ASDA and foreign-based sites, but he considers what opticians do as a kind of car warranty. If I've a problem, I can phone and he'll see me on the day. I can pop in for any kind of little problem, for free. He'll find time for me. And so forth.

Since I've had problems in the past, it makes sense for me. If I'd had ASDA or whatever, I wouldn't have the immediate help that I've called on a couple times.

As I said, it's a bit like a car warranty - you wouldn't buy a new car without one.

I just ordered last week and today received my lenses from www.visiondirect.co.uk - Wherever I looked the monthly disposables I require are all around the same £30 mark including postage for 6 months supply.
I get post free on repeat order so that will save a few quid next time.

I agree. I continue with the same local optician (even though I've now moved 10 miles away from where I used to live) as I get the service and care of my eyes.

Although I buy the solutions from Tesco/Sainsburys now I still pay £14 per month for the (monthly disposable) lenses from the Optician - this includes a 3 monthly checkup. Right now I've been going back more recently as I've had problems with the vision dropping off at the end of the day (due to not enough oxygen getting through to my eyes). I've had the same lenses prescription for 18 months or so then they suddenly started going bad. So we've tried 3 different types of lense in an attempt to find one that works best for me - each one he supplies and I try for a couple of weeks - he's committed to getting the best result for me. If I were buying the lenses direct from Asda et al then I just wouldn't have any of this kind of care.

£14 a month is small money for peace of mind, aftercare and the actual lenses. Compared to going blind it's priceless.

Side point, he actually wears glasses as well and has told me that he'd not go for laser eye surgery as the long term risks are still not well enough known. He knowns more about eyes than me so I trust him on this one ...

On the other side of the coin, opticians stand to lose a lot of money if people get laser eye surgery........
  • Hi

Martin's completely re-written the article so there's a new discussion thread here to keep all the info accessible for new people to the site. Would you mind continuing the discussion on there? Thanks :)
