    Progress report ...

Have managed several hats for someone undergoing chemo, and still working on another, which is DK cotton but on a comparatively fine needle so takes a while to grow.
This is growing quite nicely, and I was chatting to someone the other day who said that sometimes people need a hat in bed, so I reckon this will be PERFECT for that, really soft, even if the recipient doesn't like the colours.

Have started another pair of hand-warmers, these need to be larger than the previous pair so I'm having to wing it a bit with the pattern, but fortunately it's very simple (no proper thumb, just an opening in the seam). It's in sock wool on a fine needle, so again it grows slowly.
I have nearly finished the first of this pair. Stupidly didn't read the pattern right, so there's meant to be a chunk of seed stitch - K row 1, then S1, *K1, P1* to end of row 2, then K row 3, then S1 *P1, K1* to end of row 4 - and I only did rows 1 and 2 for the first 10 rows. Now I have to remember to do the same on the second one. :o

And then I realised a fluffy head band I knitted which is VERY good for cold walks was falling apart, so as I didn't much like the colour and had been told it did nothing for me, I decided to knit another. I'm on the third attempt:
FINALLY finished this and am very pleased with it.

I'm going to be playing yarn chicken with the hand-warmers. :o

The first one weighs 13g, and I've got 12g left on the ball, not counting the stitches I've cast on. I won't sew the first one up until I'm done in case I need to undo a couple of rows ...

  • Had a really good knitting day today! Got some lovely yarn from Poundland, white with a silver thread, so am making a cardigan for nearly three year old GD. Have done the back and one front since last night, know she is all hoodies and joggers this weather but when summer comes and she wears dresses it will go nicely. Off to Poundland in the morning to get the pale pink yarn with a silver thread and the lilac one too!
  • May i join you? I have just returned to crochet/knitting having not done either for quite a number of years.

I am almost at the end of crocheting a scarf with one of the yarn cones from Aldi - it is really pretty colours (lilacs and green blues) but I think it is a bit stiff really. It was a good pattern to get back into the swing of things as it repeats every row and is only trebles and chains. I think it will go into a box and be kept until next Christmas to be used as a pressie for someone.

I'm also part way through crocheting a tiny elephant for my daughter. A while ago she was given a crochet set from M and S with an elephant , giraffe and some other animal in it. She decided she wouldn't use it, but asked me to crochet the elephant. As well as it being American terminology I'm sure there were mistakes in the pattern - there wasn't anywhere near enough wool to make it, the trunk was way too small for the body, and it instructed me to finish it all off before stuffing it! Plus other bits didn't make sense - so I've unravelled it all and found a much better pattern.

I have some lovely yellow acrylic DK Yarn (I can't wear wool) which I'm looking for a straight forward jumper pattern for - but I want a bit of a pattern in the stitches, rather than just stocking stitch. I've found a great website with links to loads of patterns (some free, some paid for) so I shall be having a trawl through that at some point this week. https://intheloopknitting.com - there are far more patterns than just the ones on the home page - worth a good search through

So that was a longer first post than anticipated! Good stitching everyone!
