  • Evening everyone

Wow, this tread is growing fast at the moment, seems that everyone is back in knitting spirit now that autumn has finally set in properly.

Speaking about KnitPro needles; they have kind of a try-out set with interchangable needles where you get one size plastic, one size metal and one size wood which would be a great idea for someone who wants to try out which material works best for her.

kittie, welcome back in the world of knitters!

maryb, I think with the interchangable KnitPro needles some yarn might get stuck in this small gap between the needle itself and the metal part of the joint. I do have that with my current yarn which splits easily and gets thin enough to get caught. Never had this with bigger needles and thicker yarn though.

Plumduff, it is always good to have a finished present handy so I'm sure you will find a home for the scarf.

    Happy knitting everyone!

the Karbonz are not interchangeable but the tip is silver and the shaft is carbon fibre so there is a transition. I don't know why it makes such a difference to my knitting but it just is so much more even, it's quite astonishing
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Maryb I have karbonz as well as the lantern moon needles. I have 11 pairs of lantern moon and all the others are thinner needles by karbonz. I think I have the full range of needles and all are long as I knit with needles under my arm. My interchangeables are chiaogoo and I have the metal and wooden sets as sometimes two of a certain size are needed, also they flow differently. I do have separate complete circular needles but they remain curly but are easy to grab if in a hurry. My dpns are karbonz and knitpro in nice kits and I have a standby metal set with longer pins. I just found a set of knitpro interchangeables but hardly used since I got chiaogoo, which I now have in all sizes. A treasure trove, think I`ll leave a note in my will pack to say not to give to the cs as a giveaway, only I know the value of all my knitting, spinning and sewing stuff. Btw I used metal aero needles for donkeys years, only buying the above when I could afford them but wow, no comparison and I need hand preservation now

I need to add that I would not buy knit pro again as a couple of the wooden tips have started to split and catch on yarn, such is the nature of the wood they use. The lantern needles have remained stable as is a better quality and hardness of wood

    Hi everyone,

Interesting reading about knitting needles. I also knit with the needle (right one) under my arm and hold the wool with my right hand. I have tried and tried to knit with circular needles, but watching You Tube tutorials everyone seems to hold the wool in their left hand when knitting this way, I just can't seem to get used to this. Any tips anyone? So many lovely patterns now give instructions for knitting in the round.

srn I knit in the round with 4 DPNS, holding one under my right arm and using the other one to knit with. Try it, it's easy. Mine are 40cms long and I get them from Shetland.

I don't post here often but I'm so pleased with the hat I made from a kit, I thought some of you might be interested:

I bought the kit on amazon.co.uk from a USA supplier (it took 2 weeks to arrive) but I found a UK supplier this morning and there are lots to choose from so I ordered the penguin and Santa from http://www.purplelindacrafts.co.uk/dmc-top-this---yarn-and-topper-to-knit-hat-1067-c.asp

It's chunky yarn so it knits up in only a couple of hours and the topper can be removed for washing.

What a good idea! Will definitely try it. Must admit I'm a bit perplexed with the patterns on a chart as well! When I knitted years ago the pattern was written out row by row or at least the patterns I used were!

srn, the circular needle I am using now is just used like 2 normal needles but not tucked under the arm. I do find that circular needles make holding work more comfortable at times. Mar I bought long dpns from ravelry, for my unused knitting belt. I was exploring different knitting methods to try and take the strain away from my hands and wrists. If I am using short dpns, I do find after a while I am poking myself in the stomach so it hurts, I have to wear body armour in that area. I hold the wool in my right hand at all times. If actually knitting in the round, you do need to have the right length in a circular needle, otherwise the excess just gets in the way and the knitting can get stretched. I do prefer using seams as they add strength and rigidity to shoulder seams as well as being easier to get the chest shaping right

Mar those dpns from shetland are the ones to go into a knitting belt, aren`t they?

I am just back from wood carving, just about to have lunch and then knitting, chocolate and a film. What a life!!

You need a special clipboard and a long magnet and go row by row. You get used to it

srn, don't worry I struggle with a pattern that has a chart too and will not bother with patterns if they have one. I'm probably missing out on loads of lovely patterns though but I guess some of us are just not meant to knit with charts :)
