Hya, I have rung the lady again tonight, but once more no answer, so she may be away. Oh well, I will try again tomorrow. She has my details if she wants to get in touch, if only to get her pattern back!!

I have just discovered this site by TinyOwlsMagicAttic....she has made some amazing things, especially the beekeeper's quilt!! I might have to buy a few of her patterns..I loive the needle gnomes!!

Love the bunting cuddles...looking really good!

Whereabout in The Netherlands do you live euronorris? We lived in Eindhoven, then Apeldoorn from 1986 to 1988...I quite liked it. My dutch wasn't too bad by the time we came home. I even managed to talk to some dutch ladies at the Festival of Quilts last month, and I wasn't too bad, so long as they didn't speak too fast :rotfl:

Right, I need to sort out what work to take when I see my boss tomorrow, she is taking me out to lunch...mmmmm! :D

Lots of "how to" sites will come up if you google learn to knit. Some people find videos helpful, some like books, some like being shown by someone else hands on.
Is it possible for you to see if there are any knitting groups near you? Knitters (like gardeners!) are usually very helpful and patient and keen to pass on knowledge, even to absolute beginners.
Your nearest wool shop or library might have details of groups.
    Good luck.

Thankyou, I never thought about finding a knitting group :) may start off with books and videos ect as I have a 2 year old, but then find a knitting group this time next year when he starts nursery :)xx

I'm in Haarlem, quite near Amsterdam and the coast at the same time! :)

I love it here, but still mastering the language. Improving all the time now, and can understand most post we get etc. Quite handy as I was given a flyer at the station this morning telling me all about the new station library! Woo! Apparantly, it's the first station library in Europe! I'm quite pleased, as it's so close to us, and you can pay €40 for the year, and then borrow as many books as you like, or, pay €2,50 per book and hold onto it for 3 weeks :D

Thank you OrkneyStar and euronorris - I'll join Revelry. I've never done 'cable' knitting so i'll make a plain pair first and then try the cable ones.

Don't let that put you off. I'd never done it before either but tried it a week ago and discovered its far far simpler than Id thought it was. Knitting on double pointed needles without stabbing myself repeatedly, thats definately a challenge.

  • I've just started knitting and am getting addicted!

Im knitting some wristwarmers at the moment- my first project!

It asks you to slip a stich at the start of most rows...why is that, does it make the edge more "tight"?

    Thanks!

I used to think that until I used small bamboo DPNs to make small items for an Advent Calendar. That gave me the confidence to believe that the stitches aren't going to slip off the needles. I can really recommend them to make something like this..

  • Hi! I rediscovered all my knitting stuff under the bed yesterday and I was just wondering if anyone knows of any sites or stuff on this forum that would help out a real novice? I bought needles and yarn a couple of years ago and I have a half-finished scarf (which btw I dont know HOW to finish!) so other than the basic knitting technique I dont really know much! Any advice would be great! xxx

This book was recommended to me by another forum user: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0715317997/ref=s9_simh_gw_p14_d0_g14_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0S2W7RC1ZYZ597NDVN88&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294

It is on it's way to me, but I haven't seen it yet, so cannot confirm how good it is. But, I am sure if you search youtube, you will find some 'how to' videos.
