Which leads me to another question - does anybody else never seem to get to knit anything for themselves?!

I don't knit socks but no, I never knit anything for myself. rarely anything for the bigger children tbh.

So on the subject of socks, (must get a life), have you ever tried bamboo with nylon? Or am I stuck forever with Regia wool. Frightened to lower the quality due to wearability issues etc. Twilleys Gorgeous is the next one I have bought to try. Only noticed when it arrived that it was DK not 4ply. Tension square looms I'm afraid. Be grateful for any suggestions as to what you ladies use as reliable sock wool.

Before I start sounding obsessive - I have also knitted two gilets (grandaughters), coat, dress & shoes (doll), cabled jumper and coat/cardie (soon to be daughter in law), since Christmas. OK and four pairs of socks for son. Which leads me to another question - does anybody else never seem to get to knit anything for themselves?
You can get other types of sock wool apart from Regia. For example-
I have used Schoeller and Stahl wools:

    and also Opal wools:
    PIC_7582_medium.JPG
They tend to be about £8 ish for a 100g ball.
You can also get other sock wools which wear well too.
I have only knitted hats and mittens with bamboo wool, never socks though.
Yes I knit for myself, socks, hats, scarves, cardi, mittens, also DS, DH and my mum :D.

I would look on e-bay, not necessarily to buy there but to see just what is out there....you could then ask around to see if anyone used a specific yarn! x

    Afternoon

Had a lovely time away with my grandson - lots of cuddles. All the things I knitted went down well!

Have been asked to knit him a jumper that opens at the neck as he hates things going over his head. Had a quick search for patterns, but not a lot out there!

I am not a hugely accomplished knitter so need something simple for a 1 year old size. Any recommendations please? Would like to use a nice wool and do a cable down the front if possible. Only patterns I have found are for Bernat yarn, which doesn't seem to be widely available here. Anyone know of an equivalent?

Could you not to cardigans instead? Much easier to put on him and loads of patterns available.

    Thanks kinkine :j

Love the first one, but can only find it in Finnish :rotfl:

Should have mentioned that I have never tried circular needles, so reluctant to try for the first time on this :o

Catwoman - thought of that but my daughter specifically wants a Guernsey style jumper.
