Hi All,
Delighted to find this thread for us knitters!
I have found this website:-
http://www.garnstudio.com/index_lang.php
Under each pattern they’ve indicated the knitting tension (in number of stitches/10 cm) so that suggested yarn may be replaced by yarn with a similar knitting tension.
New designs are constantly uploaded (and you can search the website for new ones) and...wait for it...they're free to download! Also, as if this wasn't wonderful enough, you can see comments from people who've knitted the pattern and chat in their Forum: how helpful!February Grocery Challenge 262.50/250.00 - overspend - oh no!

I'm working on a chunky jumper for DH for Christmas. I've just started the raglan shaping on the back. Better get knitting I think - I've still got the front and two sleeves to make. This is my first go at knitting a jumper.0

do a google search for ann Budd books. She does books for shrugs, jumpers, socks etc with countless variations on sizes. Very useful books
I was an avid knitter 52 years ago starting from age 7 and making myself a dress when I was 15. Alas it became cheaper to buy ready-mades and all the little wool shops disappeared. I then stopped knitting for 20 years but I`m BACK with a vengence
How some things have changed: needles for example. I still have my full set of 35cm milward but I bought a full set of 35 cm bamboo and they are marvellous, so relaxing on the fingers. I bought a full set of dpns (double pointed needles) in bamboo again and both from china via ebay. Excellent needles and value. I have treated myself to brittany birch 5" dpns for my socks and they are lovely to use. The longer sharper ones were sticking into me and I had to wear a tough apron to avoid the pricking. I have also treated myself to a stack of addi turbos because circular knitting is going to be the way forward for me
hehe: can`t teach an old dog new tricks!! rubbish
I still have all my needles from 30+ years ago and recently added the new larger ones for the chunky knits. Only thing is that these are plastic, and with man made yarns I find they 'squeak' and I don't really like them, but I've never heard of bamboo ones! I presume these wouldn't 'squeak' because they are a natural material. Do you agree? Are these expensive? I will have to check ebay out. I don't do that much knitting to warrent buying a whole set, otherwise knitting wouldn't be os then!
For other newbie knitters, I recommend visiting jumble sales for patterns and needles. I bought a bunch of old needles which had loads of different sizes, both ended and double pointed, cable needles and 'safety pins' for when you hold stitches separately. I paid 20p for them! They did have patterns, but they were too old fashioned or were for babies and I have loads of old ones of my own."It is always the best policy to speak the truth-unless, of course, you are an exceptionally good liar." - Jerome K Jerome0 -
I can't remember where I got them from - possibly John Lewis - but I have bamboo needles too. I find them much nicer to knit with. They aren't as heavy and clunky as the old metal ones I used to have.0

put bamboo into ebay.co.uk search on needles. 55p with £8 postage for the full set of 16 pairs of 35 cm. Really nice needles. Warm and a pleasure to use
another treat for me was stitch markers. I got a set(ebay.co.uk) made with a lobster claw. Brilliant for marking my work and easily moveable. All different so I can easily see start and finish on circular rows. I thought they were dear at first but they are beautifully made in an organza drawstring bag and I would buy them again
oh yes, now keeping everything tidy and sorted was a problem until I discovered needle rolls and holders in ebay.com (the US) the ladies only charge minimal postage and if you stay under $36 there is no tax. For $36 I got 2 aprons and a dpns holder. Beautifully made. Worth the search0 -
I recommend this lady for needle cases and aprons
