    Clearly I was ill-informed:

    https://www.interweave.com/article/knitting/remembering-queen-elizabeth-ii-royal-impact-knit-crochet/

Although there were no examples of her knitting in later life.

And should Prince William take up knitting? https://knittinganddeath.medium.com/should-prince-william-take-up-knitting-48e7a1151094#

Oh, wouldn't it be wonderful if more members of the royal family took up knitting and crochet! We hear of celebrities who make things while they're waiting in the wings, so to speak, so why not! I'm sure it would help their mental health too, as the article says. They must get so frustrated at times....   Thanks for sharing the link, it was very interesting to read of the male members of the RF who knitted too.

On the subject of celebrities: I can't verify who it was, but one of the very senior BBC Foreign Correspondents used to do cross stitch when there was any delay. A fellow correspondent, delayed with her at a border or somewhere, was trying to find out what was going on. And he said something like "you see that lady over there, engrossed in her cross-stitch? Any minute now, she's going to look up and realise that we have been here for FOUR HOURS, and she will NOT be happy!"

I don't think it's rude to get your knitting out in a cafe, especially when you've met a friend for that express purpose, but I do draw the line at getting it out because the waiter is taking too long to take your order in a restaurant. Mum used to threaten that sometimes!

@gill5blue if you can find the pattern on Ravelry I would have a look at the attributes assigned to the pattern and select the particular ones that you are looking for .. e.g. cables  fitted etc etc and then see what comes up.

What is worrying about the reviews? That the pattern isn't easy to follow, that it doesn't come true to size etc etc etc?

I've just googled 'free knitting pattern for ladies cable jumper' and lots comes up. I am learning to look at patterns more critically these days: I don't wear jumpers anyway, but think I'd find the sleeves on that a bit tight-fitting - which is probably the intention, so just a matter of preference for me! If I look at the pattern for the most recent cardigan I knitted, I can see that it's a very deep V neck, and if I were to knit it again I'd work out how to make the V less deep. I know I'd need more buttons and button-holes, so it would take some brain power.
