Savvy_Sue said:Now I knew there was somewhere else I should ask ... tried a local FB knitting group but didn't get the answer I wanted ...Doing cables for the first time and, inevitably, I've done one the wrong way. I'm knitting front and back of a pullover at the same time, but not in the round. It's only 4 rows down, so WWYD?1. Leave it and make that bit the back, it will add to its charm ... And hope I don't make any more mistakes ...2. Run those 4 stitches back down and Google how to pick them up 'right'? I'm sure I've seen something about how to do it.3. Unpick 4 rows.
I carried on with the other half, and of course did then make the same mistake, but realised sooner AND I'd done the cabling a couple of rows too soon, so that was an easy row and a half to undo, and it looks fine.
It is for a cricket pullover for my Great Nephew: I've done him bootees and mittens and a non-cabled pullover, but when his Dad said that would be perfect for the cricket this summer I thought I should do The Real Thing.
HTH.
Love the octopi. I’m assuming the American hat pattern was for “worsted weight” yarn? That’s Aran weight in the UK (10-ply in Australia), but you can get by with a very dense/thick DK. (As a child/teenager, I made several things in DK from American patterns quoting worsted weight. They turned out fine.)
Sorry to hear you were made redundant before your planned retirement date but, hopefully, they gave you a decent payout to spend on yarn sweeten the blow. (Something you wouldn’t have got if you’d retired.)

Actually each cable is over 4 stitches, quite subtle ... but I presume the advice holds.Signature removed for peace of mind5

@Savvy_Sue your Octopus egg cosies are inspired!
Re: mistakes - I'm able to undo and repick up stitches if a couple of rows back, but any further then
a) if the piece is for me - I rip back the rows to my mistake
if
b) for the OH - I look at it and go hmmm .... I'll get away with that....
I have plans to knit sparkly hedgehogs for the village library Christmas fund raiser. (I have knitted one so far ....)Fashion on the Ration 2025 27/666 -
So yesterday I made it to the local Knit'n'Natter group at the Library, and just sat and dropped the four stitches. I think it's OK now, fingers crossed I don't do it again ...
And yes @PipneyJane, there was a redundancy payment for me, I was told I'd have to think about what I wanted to do but my first thought was "not for very long I won't ..." :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind5 -

I have an FO to show off. This is Audrey In Unst, which I finished knitting in May 2019.

@PipneyJane - that is a lovely, lovely cardigan. I tend to shy away from knitting cardigans because of the skill required for button bands & button holes and your design has so many buttons!
I did recall that Kate Davies did a posting on button bands - whilst searching for the post I saw she has a Allingham mystery/Art Deco KAL. Well, that was it - had to sign up. I hope I can use stash for the patterns otherwise I'm sunk....Fashion on the Ration 2025 27/664 -

Thank you @alicef
I like Kate Davies, @alicef. I knitted her Deco Cardigan years ago. It’s still sitting in my “to be finished off” pile because it didn’t have button holes. Instead, you’re meant to attach ribbon and press-studs to make the closure, while sewing your buttons to decorate the outside. (Once upon a time, you could buy tape with press-studs already sewn on. I never remember to look for it, when I’m anywhere that might possibly stock it.)

@PipneyJane - ribbon w/ press studs - that sounds like my sort of fastening.
Actually, I would be very interested in tracking down this as we have duvet covers that don't have any fastenings but are meant to fold over the end of the duvet. My OH hates these and wants me to attach press studs or buttons/buttonholes. Tape with press studs sounds ideal.Fashion on the Ration 2025 27/662 -
