The ipconfig results confirm that you are not being issued an IP so unless it is possible to manually assign a fixed IP for each machine, it looks like you need another router, that will actually share bandwidth.

I would contact Virgin and explain the problem, because others have reported that they have been either given a router or told to go and buy one up to £50 and the cost would be refunded. You may have tell them that you are going to leave them due to other providers supplying free wireless routers etc.

Thanks for your input, I have never had any dealings with these locked Telewest non routers!

Neither have I, just remember reading about it somewhere. I think it was the OP's comment that the router was plugged into the V+ STB that reminded me as there are two ways of getting cabel broadband. The normal way with a modem and whatever router you want and the other way via your set top box. I'd recommend the Op changes over to a separate modem as I think the speed may be limited via the STB as well.

if they are anything like the sky/netgear routers then they have their own firmware inside the box. you cant change certain items and they logon automatically.
to use them as normal routers you need to hack the firmware.
then they wont work with your isp account, ie sky, unless you know the logon details.
    Get some gorm.

I should have said that my Netgear is not connected direct to the V+ Box.

The router is connected to the V+ Box via a modem. This doesn't appear to make any difference though in trying to connected 2 computers.

So you are still connectign via the STB. Typically with Virgin where the cable enters your house is a splitter, one cable then goes to your STB and a separate one goes to the modem. I just seem to remember that if youc onect to the internet via the STB you have limited speed and can only connect one PC.

When I first had the router, it was connected direct to the STB.

When our broadband was increased by Telewest, they put in the modem. The STB goes into the modem which is connected to the router.

There is no splitter, the cable enters the house and goes direct to the STB.

You would be better starting your own thread giving much more information as I don't see how anyone can help on what you have said. e.g. model of router, does the Dell have built-in WiFi or are you using an adaptor, type of encryption, operating system etc. etc.
