Help a guy choose striaghtners for his girlfriend

Options
My girlfriend has decided that her latest straighteners are rubbish and she wants some new ones. The nice guy I am I said I'd get her some. She seems to go through straighteners like no-ones business.

Anyway, she initially wanted a pair of GHD's but I she has now learned that there are equally good and even better straighteners out there, some for less money.

I have looked at the following:
FHI232c £60
Ha Hair £170 seen for £79.99
Kodo £50-120
T3 £120
PBM £70

She straightens her hair every day and has reasonably thick curly hair. She seems to think that 210c is not hot enough? She likes the finish she gets when they use GHD's in the her salon and claims it lasts for over a day.

I've been reading around and GHD's seem like old technology compared to some. I've read up on Solid ceramic, Tourmaline, Ions and Far Infra-red and quite frankly my head is spinning.

On a side note has anyone noticed that GHD, GHS, SHE, FHI and Kodo straighteners all look near identical?

Anyway which straighteners would you recommend?

I love my GHD's! I had three pairs prior to GHD's and now I wouldn't go back.

I would only use GHD's, I have thick curly hair and they are the best!

It has to be GHD's I'm afraid- my dd hair is so thick that the hairdresser openly cries when it is time to have it cut but GHD's straighten it out no probs. I hated the idea of paying over £100 for a pair but by god it's saved me more than that over the year she's had them.

sure its not just marketing (which I work in by the way)?

GHDs aren't ionic as far as I know and don't have either tourmaline in the plates or at least fully ceramic plates.

Also wasn't there a documentary or two about them destroying themselves?

    Another vote for GHD.

If she has thick hair they seem to be the only ones that can tame it.

Though, I don't like them for my hair as they make my hair too poker straight and I like a little bit of bounce and movement. So I have ones with a rounded side.

The new GHD's have a different power cable so don't blow up... or so I am told.

I love my GHD's (can you tell...!)

I got mine from my husband for Valentines Day last year and they were the best present ever x

Sorry it has to be GHD's, got mine before the marketing campaign. Was shown them in a hairdressers and have had them for about 4/5 years no issues, they are the only thing that have ever worked on my hair!
Only two big facts are known for certain: you are on a large, spinning rock hurtling through lonely space at about 67,000 mph, and one day your body is going to die. Will a new pair of shoes really help? :p

older models of GHDs had a few problems when they were left plugged in and somehow burnt out the electrics - but this was a few years ago and it's not an issue with new ones. i stood on my GHDs and broke them last year (angry doesn't even come clsoe to how i felt about my own stupidity). i bought a different make from ebay - they're good and cost half the price, but not as good as the now dead GHDs. for me, the price i saved was just about worth the loss of performance but if I'd had the money it would have been GHDs all the way. i guess it depends on your hair - i have frizzball-hell days and GHDs are just far and away the best. for less 'difficult' hair, others might be fine.

have you seen this thread - lots of ways to get GHDs cheaper:
