Daily £1 Capping Limit For Mobile Internet Use

I just got a Nokia 6020 from local Tesco store and got it unlocked so thought I would try the internet on it. I put in a Vodafone PAYT sim signed up for Stop The Clock and downloaded Opera Mini and decided to browse for a while. I was charged £1.14 for browsing with Opera Mini for about an hour. The next day I browsed Vodafone Live for about 40 minutes and was charged £1.04.
I saw on the website before I started that Vodafone charge a maximum £1 a day for mobile internet browsing, yet I was charged over that amount for 40mins to an hour.
I will try T-Mobile as they have a capped internet daily amount of £1 and the 5 day pass for £2.50.

I would like to know if this is normal for Vodafone or is it a fault somewhere along the line, does the T-Mobile cap work okay or is it the same?

Is the Stop The Clock promotion reliable if I was to make a call during the qualifying times for less than an hour would I be overcharged instead of 30p charge?

Has anyone else had any problems with any of these services?

were you using dial up with Opera ?

STC only applies to calls not Vodafone Live, its a data transmission not a call

I'd call Voda & ask why you were over a £1, unless you went over your 15MB

" Whether you’re a Pay as you talk or a Pay monthly customer you can start exploring the Mobile Internet straight away on our daily rate. This normally costs no more than £1 per day.

If you browse just a few pages a day and use less than 0.5MB in the process, you only pay for those pages.

Reading 5 pages of news on the BBC costs about 25p.
Finding a restaurant on Google search costs about 20p.
From 0.5MB all the way to 15MB, which is more than enough for most users, you pay £1 per day. This lets you:

view 600 web pages in a day or
download 15 minutes of video "
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • I was using GPRS not dial up and the vodafone access point was selected. I only looked at 3 sites the first day using Opera Mini with images switched on and it was not so fast obviously but I certainly never got round to 600 pages worth.
The second day I did not use Opera Mini but went into Web on my Nokia 6020 and looked at Vodafone Live I was looking for the Mobile TV but it was not there. The phone is switched to internet web use as it was internet web pages I was looking at on day one.

You are correct in saying that stop the clock is for off peak calls but I am asking if that also has a habit of overcharging as well as I have been overcharged for the £1 daily capping on internet use.
  • Hi

Vodafone's daily rate is 15MB for £1 and then £2 per MB there after.

Would it be possible for you to contact us via email so I can look into why you have been charged over the £1. You simply need to complete Vodafone's online contact Form, completing all the required fields so I can access your account with out having to ask for more information. Please also include the code FIT135 so that the email comes to my department.

Please bear in mind as you are a Pay As You Talk customer your account needs to be registered before I can view it. To register your account please call 08700 700 191 or 191 from your mobile.

I look forward to hearing from you.

If it helps, orange also has unlimited browsing for £1 a day. I have used it for more than 10 days, and never was charged more than £1 a day.

Thanks Hopefullyuseful1 I had already contacted vodafone by their contact form on the vodafone website but they wrote back saying I had to register by phoning a number, couldnt understand why I had not been registered as I had registered my details online a few nights ago, is the online registration something different to the telephone one?
Anyway I replied to the email with the security details they requested after I had registered a second time this time on the phone. So hopefully they will sort it out.
    Thanks for your reply.

  • I have just received this email from vodafone regarding this and it seems that the £1 a day internet browsing capping only applies if you use it lots. I know that if I used less than 0.5MB I would be charged accordingly ie. a proportion of the £1 a day capping limit but I was wrong.

Does anyone know if T-Mobile charge like this for their £1 a day internet browsing and also their 5 day pass for £2.50 all on PAYG?

    Good evening

Thank you for getting back to me with those details. I'll assist you ahead.
I went through your previous email and can understand that you have used internet on your mobile and were charged £1.14 on 29th of January and £1.04 on 31st of January 2008. Let me explain.
Data charging is capped at £1 per day with a 15MB limit you are charged at a rate of £2 per MB for the first ½ MB (until they reach £1), the reaming 14½ MB are free - so if you use less than ½ MB you are just charged for what you use.
I've checked your account and can confirm that you have been charged £1.04 and £1.07 on 29th and 31st of January 2008 respectively.
I trust this will explain you the charges. In the meantime, if there is any thing else I can help you with please feel free to contact me.

    Kind Regards
