When serving my home made I stir in Agave Nectar. It on sale in Sainsburys but I assume it's in other supermarkets. It doesn't have a flavour as such it just sweetens and you don't need a lot.

svm - yes I've tried using a half sachet & it works well as long as you reduce the amount of liquid added proportionately. Be sure to seal the sachet well after use so that any dampt doesn't get in and congeal the powder.

Gonna try that! I've felt like such a failure with yogurt. The first couple of batches I made in the Easiyo with UHT and live yogurt worked fine, then.....they all started being runny. So I used live culture powder, which worked well but only if I used loads, so it was very expensive overall. Now we just buy the easiyo sachets in bulk from Lakeland as the honey one works out as £1.20 per 500ml, comparable to store bought flavoured yog but still too much.

Can anyone help... my Easiyo has failed the last few times :(

I'm using a couple of table spoons of Easiyo powder mixed in with UHT milk and this had been working fine, however the last couple of times I tried to make the yoghurt, nothing happened - after 12 hours, I had milk with Easiyo powder in it. If I then try and recook the mix (adding boiling water again), I get a badly split mix - with a cottage-cheese like substance on top and masses of whey underneath. Am I being too impatient - if it hasn't worked the first time, should I just leave it another 12 hours to see what happens?

My OH has said that he dropped the thermos bit just before I started having problems, but it doesn't look damaged and I can't think that merely dropping the flask would cause this?? I've tried a couple of different brands of milk, just to make sure it's not the milk batch causing the problem.

I'm still on my original packet of Easiyo mix, so maybe I should just throw it and start a new pack?

Hoping someone can help me with this question :)

I have made yogurt (in easyio maker) which has seperated to give 3/4 thick yog and 1/4 yellow water liquid.

I left it for 6 hours before checking it and it was still runny. I replenished the hot water and left it overnight (only meant to leave it another 2 hours but went to bed and forgot about it!)

Will it be OK to eat if I drain off the watery bit?

Help! I have been making yoghurt in the Easi-yo, using a bought starter with UHT milk and some sweetener and milk powder with great success and the kids are even eating it!

But this time its runny! It definately yoghurt in taste but not in texture. Any tips to thicken it please - or should I class it as a failure and drink it like Yop?

    Hi there

I have been making my own yoghurt for a short while now and having great success. Yoghurt, with whatever fresh or tinned fruit we have, is now a firm addition to my packed supper (I work nights).

I use the Easiyo maker but do it with UHT milk, starter, milk powder and sweetener - But this time I have put the kit together, using my own yoghurt from previous batch as a starter the stuff has stayed runny, its more like plain Yop.

Can I thicken this? Can I save it? What can I do with it?

    Thanks in anticipation.

You can usually chain home made yoghurt (use a bit of a home made batch to start the next batch) a few times before needing to buy a new starter. It seems that this has not worked - don't throw out the "yop" but save it until tomorrow then redo it with some new starter. It's just one of those things that sometimes happens when you make your own yoghurt - it could be down to temperature, starter, time, etc, etc.

If you don't want to restart it make it into a smoothie with your fruit - just blend them together. It will be just as satisfying and healthy.

ETA - try just leaving it in the fridge overnight first - it may thicken up

Thank you Lizzy - I will pop out whilst doing the school run and get some new starter. This was the first redo with my own starter this time which was why I was so perplexed. "Yop" has been in the fridge already overnight and not thickened, so will most probably become a batch of smoothies to welcome the kids home from school tomorrow!
