Ok, first batch that I made with heated uht milk curdled but I didn't realise I had used a starter yog wihout live cultures.

Second batch was like thick milk, bit like Carnation milk, I had used Probiotic yog from Lidl.

Third attempt last night made with Moo UHT milk, 1 tbs Marvel and 2 tbs Yeo Valley yoghurt.

I poured the milk into the container cold as others have done because it was UHT.

Left overnight ie 10 hours, checked this morning and it was like milk. It looks exactly like it did when I put it in the container!

I came down hoping to find some kind of yoghurt, especially as I had used the Yeo Valley which a lot of people rec.

In a moment of panic :o I added a couple of tbs of marvel, put into a small saucepan and heated slightly, put back into the container and poured boiling water into the outer container again and put the easiyo back into it.

Haven't got a clue if that will do anything or not.

It is costing me more in uht milk than buying a large tub of yogurt at the minute.

    Not happy. :(

    Update.

I checked on it after about 4 hours and it looks like it is setting but there is a hell of a lot of whey in there, perhaps 2/3 of the tub is whey.

I emptied out the water and filled it again with freshly boiled, will leave it another couple of hours and see what it is like.

    It smells like yoghurt.

    ;)

I don't open mine once I've started it. I also make it about tea time and leave it overnight.

Fingers crossed for you this time.

Well I started mine at about 6pm last night and took it out at about 8 or 9 this morning so it had more than enough time to do its thing.

Well, it may have smelled like yoghurt but I have cheese!

Once I had poured the huge amount of whey away I had a big ball of cheese, looks like boursin..

Now I need to find something to add to it as I will have to use it as a spread.

I am having a go now using the mini slow cooker to see if that will work (new batch).

I WILL make some proper yoghurt...................... eventually!

    :D

    Wow!

I have finally have some 'proper' yoghurt which I made in the slow cooker.

    :j

I am amazed, especially since I was having problems using the Easiyo.

I followed the insructions in the YouTube video using 1 ltr UHT Moo milk, 1 tbs Yeo Valley yoghurt (the green tub) and 1 tbs Marvel milk powder.

To be honest I was hoping for a success but not expecting it after the failures with the Easiyo efforts.

It had set really well, when I lifted some out with a large spoon most of it stayed in a solid mass, just a bit of runny yoghurt dripped off the sides.

I lined a sieve with a cotton handkerchief and filled that with the yog and put back into the fridge to drain the whey off, will have greek style yoghurt in a few hours time.

If you have never tried homemade plain yoghurt before it is true when makers say it is not as tangy as shop bought stuff. It is really smooth and creamy tasting.

I took some out of the seive to use for breakfast and although it was solid(ish) it quickly became like drinking yog when I stirred in some sweetener and vanilla essence. I assume once drained it won't thin out as much when stirred.

I will def be making this in the slow cooker from now on, I can't believe what a success it has been or how easy.

By the way, I made it in a small slow cooker, the ones that are for 2 people so it came to about 2" of the rim of the crock dish.

    ;)

Has anyone tried using half a sachet of easiyo to make 500ml of yogurt? There are some flavours that only I will eat and I won't eat a whole litre in a week on my own

It will probably work OK but honestly I find Easiyo lasts up to two weeks in the fridge. I guess as its live yogurt it gets even healthier ;-)

I found this out by accident but wouldn't worry about doing it regularly.

I see from an Easiyo mailing today they have a new Blueberry and Cream flavour just launching here. Yum.

Yeah, I was going to say I thought it kept 2 weeks.

Thanks for the Blueberry and Cream tip: try Boysenberry if you haven't yet - if only there was a low-fat version!

While I'm here: I made some soy yogurt from lukewarmed UHT soy milk with a bit of low-fat bio plain as a starter (because live soy yogurt seems about as common as rocking horse poo in my town and I wasn't doing this for allergy reasons) and it's dead easy, it's yogurt but it's bland. What's the best way to flavour it? Fruit purees don't really mix in, vanilla essence isn't strong enough... am pondering trying custard powder next ;-)
