I had my easiyo delivered this morning and currently have my first batch of yoghurt in there!

Just a question though, I have read that many of you freeze your starter yoghurt in cubes and then just use one of those for the next batch, which do you freeze, the store bought live yoghurt or some of the yoghurt you have just made with the easiyo?

    You can freeze both ;)
  • Thriftlady, thanks for that info - how much of the frozen yoghurt (ice cube size) would you use for 1 litre? I must try to wean myself off the Easiyo packets.

The equivalent of 2Tbsps, which from the size of my ice cube trays is 2 cubes.

as an aside, where would i buy muslin if i did want to strain it to make it greek-style?

I think Lakeland sell it, but, I got a huuuuuuuuggggeeeee piece from my local fabric shop (but that's because I needed it for some trapunto work :o )

Anyone tried to replicate custard style easiyo? Thinking of stirring a couple of tablespoons of Bird's custard powder and a bit of sugar in, but should I do it before or after the mixture becomes yoghurt?
    I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

Thanks so much everyone on this thread :):) Just made my first batch of home-made easiyo using UHT milk and milk powder and it worked!!! Yay :j :j :j

Going to experiment a bit to see if I can make it come out a bit thicker next time. If I want to strain it through a muslin, would a baby's muslin cloth (clean obviously!) work?

Yeah. I've strained yoghurt through a clean jay-cloth before now too.

I think you'd end up with yeuchy raw cornflower in your yog if you did that. I'd think you'd have better luck if you made up thin custard and then tried to yog that. Just a guess mind. I think if you wanted to be able to bung all powdered ingredients together rather than making up custard I'd guess powdered egg might have more potential than custard powder.

Baby muslins (thanks Kittiwoz :) ) are 4 for £1 at our local cheapy shop, can be washed in a hot wash and used over and over again

I purchased an Easiyo kit yesterday afternoon from my local Julian Graves and I made my first batch of Easiyo last night and had some this morning with the Berryfruit sauce and it was delicious.

I will try some of the cheaper methods listed in this thread over the weekend.
