Seems I made a mistake about not owing AOL any money. I actually logged onto their site last Friday (after the third letter from SRJ) yeah, I should have done this sooner, and found out AOL had an outstanding balance of £24.20. I'd just assumed since they had released my line and I hadn't had a letter from them that I didn't owe them anything...oops. Anyway, although it rankled I paid the £24 direct to AOL on Friday. My account with AOL does now show as clear, that is, nothing is owed.
I did send them (AOL) an email saying that they should have sent me a letter before passing any debt over to a debt collection agency as I would have paid the amount there and then. I also requested that they contact SRJ and inform them the debt has been paid and mentioned that SRJ have a bad reputation and that I wouldn't give them information regarding my bank or credit card details.
It would appear that in this instance there was a debt outstanding but that doesn't mean SRJ should get away with their bully boy tactics and the fact they ignore letters from those they are chasing, I'd sent them 2 letters and neither was even mentioned.0 -

This is how I have dealt with them.
I live in a shared house. This means that their bailiffs have no right of entry as the entry is shared.
That means IF (and we all know this won't happen) they do come round then they will be denied entry.
It is that simple.
I have a friend who on my behalf always emails these creeps abuse pointing out to them two things:
a. they have no power of arrest/entry
b. they are a laughing stock
They cannot touch me because I am a foreign student. If the worst really came to the worst then all I have to do is change address.
In reality with violent crimes etc on the rise do they or you REALLY think the police will come looking?
Of course not.
Anyway they have no photograph so if anyone comes round I simply 'cannot speak English'
Easy money
It is ******** like this who screw everyone else. maybe these companies would be slightly better if people didnt have this attitude, and maybe also, the current economic state would not be this bad, with tools who run up large debts, and use things like this to get out of paying it. If you cant afford to pay it, or dont want to pay it, dont borrow it/get the finance in the first place!0 -
Im starting to see a trend here with ex AOL customers.
I had an account with AOL, right up to the day i moved (oct 08). As per contract, i terminated the contract (after the 12 month point when it went to a rolling 30 day contract), giving them the required 30 day cancelation notice. Got a reply from them a week later confirming that the acount would be closed on the given day, which was the day before moving out. Recently, i got 5 letters from SRJ in the same postal delivery, all stating the usual, but in the progresional order, you owe us money, pay us the money, we are taking you to court if you dont pay up...
Contacted SRJ and informed them that as far as i am concerned, there is no debt, and got the wonderfull response, "well, i dont care if you claim to have cancelled the account, take that up with AOL, and while you are doing that, we will be preparing the court procedings"... interesting response.
Contacted AOL, who claim they have never recieved a cancelation notice, and that my internet was active for 7 months after when i supposedly cancelled, despite the fact that my BT line was also terminated, so it couldnt have still been active...
sent a letter to SRJ recorded delivery, which they claim was not signed for by anyone there, headed with
I DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY DEBT TO YOUR COMPANY in Big Bold letters.
and requesting requesting a copy of the Signed, Excuted Credit Agreement via a Consumer Credit Act (CCA) request.
.
since they claim not have recieved this letter, they got a bit of a fright when i went personally to their office with another copy of the letter, handed it over and demanded a reciept for it
a week later, got another later from them, dated 3 days AFTER i gave them this letter, surprisingly enough, with no mention of my letter...
so just for the fun of it, went to the shop, bought 6 big newspapers, wrapped them up, and addressed it to their office, but "accidentaly" forgot to put stamps on it. the recipient is liable for costs hehe.
waiting for their response now0 -
OMG I've just had a phone call/answer phone message from SRJ wanting to speak to a person that has never lived here. We have also had letters for them which have all been 'Returned to Sender, Person not known at this addressed'
Also I or rather my Hubby received a letter from Frederickson informing him of my death andasking to see the death certificate, I was on holiday at the time so you can imagine his shock.
As you can imagine I am now not only a little worried but am also extremely scared as to what is going on.
Looking at my caller display the number SRJ called on was 01204770968 but the return call message number was 08453137200.
Can anyone please give me some advice.0 -
OK I've just called Consumer Direct and a lovely person was very helpful and has told me to send a Recorded Delivery letter to the Fredrickson Int address, telling them that there has been a mistake at their end and that I'm alive and kicking and asking them for an apology within 7 days of receiving my letter.
One interesting thing the CD person did say was to not give them anymore information then they have already given me. i.e. if name is done with initials then don't tell them what the initial stands for and if the info isn't on their letter to you then don't give it to them.0 -
I took out a post graduate loan for £5000 with HSBC in 2002, this loan is now with SRJ Debt recoveries. How do I find out if I am actually paying the correct people? SRJ have only recently contacted me and asked me to start paying. My total debt is now £6070 can any one help? im stuck!0

A letters just arrived for my OH saying they've traced him to this address and he should ring ASAP. We've lived here 2 and a half years now. He's at work atm, so can't ask him about it but glad i stumbled across this thread as otherwise we might just end up paying for something he doesn't actually owe. I know it can't be littlewoods or AOL as he's never had accounts with them...0

I received letter from srj dept recovery which want me to pay gas bill at the address I lived 4 years ago. I called the srj. I have never spoken to anybody so rude in my life. The guy not only was nearly screaming at me. He refused to send me the copy of the bill. the bill is for period 11.04.06 - 08.08.06. the thing is I have already paid bill for period 11.04 - 27.07.2006 and I can't not be charge twice for the same period so the bill should only be 27.07 - 08.08.09 but as I started to explain to him that I have a copy of the bill paid in front of me he HANG UP on me saying that he has other people to talk to. I called British Gas but they not able to access the bill. by the way: the British Gas has my address because I still have a account with them.
