Can anyone tell me if they have would be able to take any action/ blacklist the address even though the named person doesn't live here?

No, zclex - legally they can NOT 'blacklist' the property.

Continue to 'Return to Sender' any letters that you receive from SRJ and do NOT open them.

DFW Nerd # 166 PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTS
• I'm being chased by them for an alleged AOL debt at my ex-wife's property after I cancelled the account when we split up. AOL used another firm (Graham White Solicitors) back in June to try to get me to send them money, but I wrote them a letter to them telling them I had no record of the debt and asking for details, but heard nothing back from them.

Now I've had a letter from SRJ asking me to contact them immediately. When I rang them, they were very vague and said they'd need written permission from me to get the details from AOL! How ridiculous!
• SRJ also contacted me ref a cancelled AOL account from over 5 years ago (in Scotland)

They told me that they do not give out more information just to pay and then they wont take me to court! I said that Ido not acknowledge the debt they said to pay, I cancelled all AOL details and I dont have the details 5 years later - but they did confirm that it was cancelled.

I sent them an emails stating that the debt was statute barred but am awaiting a response.

Do you think I should have done something differently - they told me I had 2 days till the undertook court proceedings!!
• Don't worry about it too much. They threatened me with court several times but never went any further than their nasty letters. Just ignore their phonecalls you will only end up getting into an argument and getting stressed.:mad:Write a complaint letter to Aol straight away. They responded to me with an apology within a week and that was the end of it. Calling Aol will confirm to you that the account is cancelled but it doesn't seem to call the dogs off. At least once you have got something in writing you can rest in the knowledge that you are ok.
Hope this helps
Thanks to all competiton posters, This really is the best ever hobby :j
• I've received 3 letters about a supposed debt for AOL.

I left them in nearly December of last year, I decided to forward the email they sent me confirming that my account would be closed within 72 hours to another account I have so I do have proof my account was supposed to be terminated, this was sent on the 6th December. I didn't ask for a MAC and have since signed up with another ADSL company which shows that AOL did release the line and I imagine terminate my account. I then heard nothing at all until the 8th June this year (6 months later) from Roxburgh saying I owe AOL £47.20 I sent them an email denying it and saying I don't owe AOL anything, I hear nothing from them.

I then receive a letter from SRJ dated 23/09/09 claiming that AOL have repeatedly attempted to contact me, remember, I heard nothing from anyone until June and then nothing more until September. This company say I owe AOL £29.04 so it seems my 'supposed' debt to AOL has changed from £47.20 to £29.04. It would appear that AOL can't make their minds up how much I am supposed to owe them, this did set off warning bells. I then wrote to SRJ and said I didn't owe AOL a penny. I then receive a letter today telling me they intend to initiate litigation proceedings against me and they didn't mention my letter to them.

I've been in touch with the OFT and Watchdog about SRJ and going by other web sites it would appear this company has targeted a number of ex AOL subscribers and is sending them letters claiming they owe AOL money.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do to get rid of these idiots?

I too have received threatening letters from this company about an account with AOL that was cancelled in 2005, and from a different address to where I currently live. I have since remarried but they seemed to have traced me to my current address - what should I do, my husband says ignore the letters but it is a bit unnerving to be threatened, any help would be grately appreciated.
• For anyone interested,

Today I received a third letter from SRJ, this one demanding I get in touch with them to arrange payment within 7 days or I'll be taken to court.

I've sent this company 2 letters but neither one has been referenced by SRJ and in the last one I did ask to see written proof that I actually owe AOL anything, needless to say I received no proof whatsoever.

Can I ask if others who are fed up with the attitude of this company email Watchdog and give them information as I have done then maybe they will do a feature on SRJ and throw some light on them and their dodgy dealings. Watchdog won't do a feature if only a few people contact them.

Now, does anyone have any advice on what I should do now? I don't intend to pay them anything but this is worrying.
• I also had a contract with AOL which I cancelled in July 2008. I was contacted by Advantis Credit in March 2009 saying that I owed AOL £158. When I called AOL they said that they hadn't closed the account properly but that the debt was written off and that they would confirm this with Advantis.
This week I've received two letters from our friends SRJ. From other people's posts they seem to be the standard ones they send out: firstly saying that they've managed to trace me to this address (well done, it's the address the AOL contract was for) and then threatening to start court proceedings. The debt has mysteriously changed to £150. I called them and explained that I was disputing the debt with AOL and they put the account on hold for 7 days.
I contacted CCCS and they advised to complain to AOL and the financial ombudsman. AOL would only give me a postal address which is Complaints Management Team, c/o Member Services, PO Box 387, Southampton SO30 9AL. It is really easy to place a complaint with the financial ombudsman, you can download a form from their website http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm. However, they need to see proof that you have already tried to resolve the matter with the company you're complaining about so I wrote to AOL and asked for the following within 7 days:
- evidence of the debt
- confirmation the account if closed
- copies of all correspondence with SRJ confirming the debt is invalid
- copies of all correspondence with credit reference agencies removing this default from my records
- confirmation the debt will not be passed to any further debt collection agencies
I asked them to email me this information within 7 days as SRJ would only put the account on hold for 7 days. Then I'll approach the ombudsman.
I'll also follow the advice of posters on here and contact the OFT and Watchdog. KevinRS, do you have an email address for Watchdog?
Did anyone manage to get a postal address for SRJ? They gave me this email because of the postal strikes: correspondence@srjdebt.com.
AOL are such crooks too - what are they doing selling people's details to debt agencies when they don't owe any money? Does anyone have an email address for AOL? Or a phone number which isn't premium rate? They reserve their freephone number for the mugs who are buying new contracts with them, grrrrr.
This whole thing is so stressful - we're remortgaging at the moment and I'm also 37 weeks pregnant so it's the last thing I need on my credit report or my plate.
Anyway, good luck to all other posters dealing with SRJ I will post if I have any new information.

• How can we get this company (if you can call it that) closed down.
