Does such a thing exist? I know you can buy such things, but I cant afford any additional expense, but know that Hotmail etc will just lead to filth being being sent to her.
Ive tried to put it off for 2 years, but she definately wants an email address, and at 11 years old, she's old enough....
Thanks

you can sent one up with your isp. and just give her a folder in your e-mail that filters them in there. then you can keep a eye on them. and its free. myself and my oh have different e-mail addresses and can add more to our tiscali account

I think my hotmail address gets a lot less spam and dodgy emails than it used to...don't know if that helps though
You could just use strong junkmail filters that won't allow emails from anyone not in her address book?

If memory serves, I think that mail2web.com do a free account that's pretty secure. As mentioned above though, Hotmail accounts are fairly secure these days, at worst I get a few 'Rolux' or 'Vigara' offers a week!0

The key to avoiding SPAM mail is not the account provider but who and where you give out your email address.
Teach her not to fill in online forms, or enter competitions, put her email address in a forum post or blog comment. She should also encourage her friends not to send on forwards and the like.
I would actually set her up two accounts.
One with her name at any provider, and a second one that she can use anytime she absolutely has to fill in an online form but doesn't really want them to have her email.
Personally I would recommend gmail.0 -

Try to go for an obscure name. Spam bots hit anything that seems a like address, so bob@wherever.com will get loads because somebody probably has it.
Also, make sure she knows not to give out her address to strangers, and don't put it on internet forums etc.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Hotmail is good, although I find that I do get a lot of the 'XXX'/Viagra type spam on my Gmail account. The worst thing to sign up to is Myspace though, OH never got any spam at all until he signed up there. If your daughter is wanting to use that kind of site, maybe you could set up an email address exclusively for that to which only you have the password.0

I havent had spam for years. I have hotmail, tiscali, yahoo and googlemail (gmail), but i am careful about not publishing my web address anywhere. I use loads of forums, facebook, yahoo groups it has never been an obstacle. They are usually ok to log in with as long as you dont write them in within your posts etc0
