I voted a certain yes
Banks are still in a very strong position with equally strong services and incentives.
NR was a lame duck sitting to be taken given the right environment and it's business model was limited which is directly where it got hit. It's backup then got hit by customers panicing and withdrawing the monies :rolleyes:Proudly Banking & Saving With:

I've also voted an unequivocal yes. The examples quoted on the other thread were very much one-off cases and many of the problems quoted on these boards can be traced to individuals not spending enough time in finding out how the system actually works, instead relying on second and third hand information.
As I (and others) have posted elsewhere, credit is a privilege and responsibility - not a right and should be respected accordingly.Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0 -
I voted Yes. The vast majority of the public use their bank facilities with no problems. The minority with issues is highly vocal and supported by the media as they love to stir trouble and report on it. Many of those with problems are because of their own doing and blame the bank when the bank finally says no more.
The question in the poll is still a bit vague though. For banking accounts and traditional banking I vote yes. For marketing and advice I would vote no.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

I have to vote yes because I work for a bank. Sure you can guess which one. Banks do not just hit people for charges as some may assume. That issue is before the courts now. Banks do have a wide variety of community projects that benefits schools, hospitals and charities. My vote is YES.0

A very big NO from me. Personal experience where they have lied, acted illegally and tried to take a whole Months salary in charges. Then again, probably all my own fault.........0

I voted yes - I also work for one of the companies involved in the charges case, but when I thought about 'confidence' I based my yes decision on the bank where I hold most of my financial arrangements. This isnt because I dont have confidence in my employer - its because Ive always had extremely good service from my current account provider and dont need to move.
Ive held my accounts with them for around 9 years and any complaints have been resolved swiftly, all services work as I like them, and I dont worry that things will go wrong.
Of course people will always encounter problems with their financial service, just as people do with absolutely everything in life. However, I have always recieved better service when I have had an issue with a bank than when I have an issue with any other service. I have seen staff in other retail environments deal with complaints and quite frankly, id much rather complain to a bank than anywhere else as I know it will be resolved with much more efficiency!

Confidence that it will do what? You haven't said what the question is.
Continue to make good profits and pay their shareholders (includes me) a dividend? Yes.
Protect my money from loss? Yes, the NR shambles showed that banks won't be allowed to fail totally.
Look after my affairs without making errors? No more or less than any other industry.
Advise me appropriately and impartially? No.
Treat me as a 'valued customer'? No.
Give me the best deal available without me having to research it for myself? No.
Only try and sell me 'products' that are genuinely suitable for me? No.
I voted 'Yes', as banks are necessary (for me, anyway) and they're doing the job I need them to do and I expect them to continue doing it.0 -
