Jet2 Date Changes Admin Fee?

Hi,

I booked a flight with Jet2 yesterday, I have just had to alter the date I return on as we are now having to fly back on a different date, and have been charged £20 each for myself and my boyfriend to do this.

This seems to me to be quite an unreasonable charge, apparently it is an admin charge, but as Jet2 is a ticketless airline I cannot understand what admin costs this would incur?

I am going to write a letter of complaint but wondered if anyone had any similar experiences and whether they feel the charges are reasonable?

Many Thanks!

Charges like this are normal with any of the budget airlines. Last year I had to change an inbound flight with Easyjet, they charged me £17.50 plus the difference in the fare, cost about £80 to change it!

Below is the relevant section in their T&Cs

How much does it cost to change a booking?

Changes cost 25GBP/ 36EUR/ 58CHF/ 1250CZK/ 300NOK/ 150PLN per person per one-way flight, for name or date. In addition, where a change of person has been made or a date has been changed, any increase between the fare paid and the current available fare per sector at the time of making such a change, will be charged. If the fare has decreased, no refund will be paid. Once again, the use of credit cards will incur a fee per person per individual flight of 2GBP/ 3EUR/ 5.5CHF/ 90CZK/ 26NOK/ 13PLN and the use of debit cards 1GBP/ 1.5EUR/ 3CHF/ 45CZK/ 13NOK/ 6.5PLN.

You won't get very far with them as it is quite clearly stated in their T&Cs, you will have had to tick a box when booking to say you accept them.

The charges are too high but that is the world of low cost airlines!

i think every airline i've ever flown with charges for a date change, unless you book the most expensive Y class ticket, (example - £250 discounted rate, £1500 Y class)

it was all in the terms and conditions when you were booking, which you agreed to when purchasing the ticket.

Agree with the above, and I wouldn't even spend my valuable time writing a letter. Unless there are exceptional circumstances, they will not budge.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Thanks for your replies, however I feel if everyone adopts this passive attitude we are just giving companies a license to print money.

I did appreciate at the time I changed the booking that I was agreeing to the charges, however I still think its an unfair charge that I was forced to accept.

I will be complaining and I suggest that others do the same otherwise things will never change and we will all continue to be ripped off.

you were not forced to accept the charge, you agreed to accept it.

you could have easily booked with a full service carrier, and probably paid over £1000 for a ticket, that was refundable, with full changes available.

you chose to go with a budget airline, therefore chose to accept the charges. There is nothing forced about it, and they really won't do anything. Save your 34p for the stamp...
  • I'm really surprised by this attitude, is it true that you have to
pay £1000s to expect good customer service then? Can you explain to me why choosing a budget airline means you accept charges for essentially nothing?

I do feel I was forced to accept the charges as I obviously could not afford to book totally new flights with a different carrier.

I am prepared to spend 15 minutes of my time in order to express my
dissatifaction to Jet2 as that is the way changes are made.

Sorry to say but expressing your dissatisfaction will not change things with Jet 2 or any of the budget carriers. They know that people will have to make changes to bookings and it is another way of getting money back for cheap flights.

When you book with budget carriers at the prices they charge you cannot expect a fully flexible ticket that you can make changes to. When you book a cheap flight you have to expect there to be restrictions on changes etc. it is not just airlines that do non refundable low prices and make charges to change.

With some hotels if you book a non refundable rate there is not an option to make changes unless you cancel, lose your money and rebook, so it is not just the airlines.

Unfortunately with the price driven world we live in it is the way things work now.

Like the others have said...it's part of the deal when you book your discount ticket...ESPECIALLY with budget airlines.

You can try writing but honestly you will be wasting you time, hun.

    Not another of these threads.
Another case of you liking SOME of the T&Cs at the time of the booking (i.e. cheap price) but not the ones that don't suit you.
If airlines didn't make these charges then they'd end up charging much more for the tickets themselves, and then presumably you'd be on here moaning about high ticket prices, etc.
As has been said above, there isn't any point in complaining, purely because you yourself agreed to the T&Cs at the time of booking - therefore how can you possibly feel you have any valid complaint or grievance with the company?
