How do I retain AOL addresses and move providers

Hi there

Hoping someone can help me.

Been with AOL for several years now, had the broadband for 5years or so, with the exception of a year when I wasn’t able to get it when I moved so opted for the dial up package.

We have recently taken up the SKY package and want to get the code to get the broadband over to them. BUT we WANT to retain our AOL e-mail addresses. I tried to contact AOL about this, but they were offering a deal for us to stay. I have already complained (without success) as we are paying over £20 per month, when there is a £14.99 one, but all they were interested in was selling us the £9.99 package. All I want is to have the e-mail addresses retained (was even prepared to pay minimum as if I was a dial up customer – as before) but I want refund of the difference between £20 I am paying and £14.99 package they have been doing for some time now.

How can I get my point across to them. I did the contact us and had on line chat at one stage, following up by e-mail but it seems I can’t get to get my point across.

Should I cut my losses, quit and lose the e-mail addresses?

I am already paying for broadband with the Sky package so effectively I am paying twice which I can no longer afford to do.

Grateful for some help here

Thanks

Jenny

  • Hi Jenny

I can't answer your questions re: the overpayment, apart from good luck.

With regard to your e-mail address, they used to have a process where you could keep your AOL e-mail address for a monthly charge of about £6. I am going back a couple of years but it might still be available. If it is important to you, even if only while you communicate your new e-mail address to others. this might be an option.

    All the best

I dont know if it will work on the account holder or just additional email addresses. but AOL can be accessed via any internet search engine and log in with 2st part of address say eg Jones234@aol.com, then just use Jones 234 and the password.

AOL site says anyone can register a new email account, so \i cant see why u wouldnt be able to use the same address.

For a couple of quid a month you can get your own domain. You will have to change your e-mail addresses to that initially. Once you are there you can change ISP every week if you want, you can have as may (or as few) e-mail addresses as you want and it's one of the best methods of stopping spam around ! And you keep the same e-mail address(es) for as long as you want.
  • But I want refund of the difference between £20 I am paying and £14.99 package they have been doing for some time now.

Im paying £24.99 a month, but since they've changed there packages im not actually sure what im paying for.
Like you ive seen them offering it at £14.99.
Would it be possible to get a refund, and is there anyway of finding out whether ive been overcharged?

W left AOL a couple of years or so ago and we kept our aol email address, just go to the main log in page enter your email address and password and you will be logged in as usual, as aol give free email address yours will just become a free email address, you do lose any saved email you may have had when you where a paying customer but at least you havent got to go through the hassle of changing your email address with all your contacts, hope this helps;)

I didn't think you could. However even if that is the case it may be time to start using another as well, which isn't linked to an ISP, such as googlemail, yahoo, hotmail, msn etc. Then if you moe again you won't have any trouble.

    Good Luck

No, we started out paying for AOL Gold, when that existed, but now thats gone im not sure what were getting/paying for? As i assume i cant be paying for a package that doesnt exist anymore.
I cant seem to find anywhere that shows the original silver, gold, packages.
We didnt go for the laptop deal, as we were already with them.
I think your right in saying it'll be a ring up job, to see what im actually paying for. Hmmm always thrilled to ring up AOL

Regarding the email accounts, i always just thought, you'd sign in via the website if you no longer had AOL. As they cant allow your account name to be used by anyone else once you've owned it as you'll have bank emails, subscriptions etc attatched to that email address.

if itsany help - Im being a bit cheeky, sorry! - but b4 I did the contract w=4 the laptop I was paying £19.99 a month, rang up and asked for a mac code, (basically to transfer 2 another network) - they asked y, I said that £19.99 a month was too expensive, they came down to £9.99 a month, as long as I was prepared to stay in a 12 month contract, def worth a try.

    Good luck x
