I have been having similar problems as many here have with the Pay once view forever package.
After many (saved) emails to both the invoicing department and the customer care department I can only say as others have "Stand by your guns"
I have only just received this email from Sky which I thought may be helpful to some who feel like giving in which is exactly what Sky wants us to do:-
Thank you for your e-mail.
I have arranged for your account to be cancelled and any outstanding balance cleared.
Please accept my sincere apologies, on behalf of Sky Television, for any inconvenience caused.
If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at the email address above.
Yours sincerely

My 6 months ends on 8/4/08. I have just had a seemingly straightforward letter from Sky informing me of the end date, outlining the cost if I want to carry on but saying that if they don't hear from me they'll switch off on the 8/4. Does anyone know if this means that they intend to switch off ALL the channels or just the free mixes? I don't want to lose the free channels, as that's the reason we signed up in the first place.
edit: rang them up to check and they confirmed that I don't need to do anything, the free mixes will be switched off on 8/4 and I will keep the free channels. Seems far to simple for Sky - I will believe it when I see it! Maybe they have changed their policy thanks to all the people on this forum???0 -

Just the free mixes, I can confirm this as OH can't watch UK Gold or something like that (LOL) BUT all freeview channels will remain. Maybe Sky has now got the message because they haven't been sending out the letter as you described just an automated invoice for £19:00. Well done to MSE'ers who have hi-lighted the issue :T :T"Did you hear about the frog that broke down on the motorway???? They toad him away!"0 -

I got two different letters from Sky yesterday demanding payments as I had allegedly signed up for a 12 month contract (Not true of course). Another letter demanded the £19 monthly payment for subscribing to the free mixes (also not true) The £19 is broken down into £15 subscription and £4.00 ADMIN FEE ha!!
I emailed Sky with the letters and with the email I placed on this thread 14-02-2008 5:11 PM and surprisingly had a call this morning offering apologies (That's at least a good start) and advising me following a confirmatory email to ignore any further demands for payment.
My point to the lady was that there are many others who are suffering at the hands of Sky and have not necessarily got the strength to fight these !!!!!! Turpins. I further suggested quite strongly that as a good will gesture, SKY "should" offer a complimentary 6 months in recompense for the distress it is causing over it's own incompetence. Needless to say this suggestion was baulked at and a "I take on board your comments" statement made. Typical Sky, take all and give nothing but grief in return. I work in Customer Services and would be shamed to be associated with the same sort of service
I hope this will help those that feel they are fighting a losing battle and I DO know that the staff member I spoke with has stated she has read the comments before she phoned me earlier. HTH"Did you hear about the frog that broke down on the motorway???? They toad him away!"0 -
I bought the Sky "Pay Once Watch Forever" package from Dixons last summer with the installation and service commencing on the 14th August.
The documentation is clear - 2 mixes for six months and no ongoing committment to Sky. The original letter states that Sky will contact me near the end of the six months to find out what I want to do. The only approach from Sky has been a bill (dated 31st Jan) for £19-00 for services from 14th Feb. I immediatley wrote to Sky explaining that at the end of the six months period I would continue with the free channels only. The service was disconnected on 14th February '08.
I have now had a letter from Sky stating that my account cannot be closed until the £19-00 is paid. I have replied asking them to state exactly why they expect me to pay this money.
I will be abroad for a few weeks and I am going to pay this bill to avoid any unpleasantness while I am away. However, I am writing to Sky requesting a refund of the £19-00 and if the matter is not fully resolved when I return I will follow it up with the consumer protection authorities.
If Sky are entitled to this cash, then they need to clarify the terms of the 'Pay Once Watch Forever" because it is not apparent from the way this package is marketed.0 -
I am a pensioner and now find myself in a similar position. The letters are very intimidating but Sky will not bully me into submission.
I have started this thread as the original is now 19 pages long and if my experience is to go by others are going to start having problem like ours.
The offer was for basically Freesat at half price plus two free mixes for 6 months after which Sky would contact us as to whether or not we wanted to continue and pay for the extra mixes etc.
We bought this package via Dixons on line back in July 2007, and the intial 6 months viewing of the two extra mixes finished a few days ago.
Sky never contacted us except to send a bill for the next months viewing!
Last week we called to make sure that the extra mixes were not continued and after a very long call this was eventually done so we now have just the Freesat channels.
Since then Sky have sent what amounts to a threatening letter to the effect that unless we rejoin Sky we wil be billed almost £100 for breach of a 12 month contract, which we don't have!!!
Fortunately we kept ALL the packaging and letters that Sky have sent us about this product, and low and behold in the early stages a congratulations letter under the name of "Mark Anderson, Customer Marketing Director" spells out exactly our position, ie our minimum subscription term is only 6 months.
A suitable letter has gone off to Sky, asking for the situstion to be put right and for compensation for the time and worry that Sky have caused.
Please do not bow down to this sort of intimidation.0 -
