Its time for reflection at the these repulsive acts. Not a time to think about making money. At least allow a few days of mourning for the innocents that were killed by this barbaric act. They deserve that much.

This is a typical example of what I have talked about many times people jump on a 'cause' or a 'bandwagon' and the only thing guaranteed when a 'cause' is involved is that common sense has been and gone. The perspective, which is obvious, 'DERRR' (excuse me for quoting your wonderful thought provking argument) is that poeple have lost their lives and the only thing some people are worried about is the cost of a phone call. If anyone posting on this thread has any direct relationship with the 'saynoto0870' website then that would be really sickening, and nothing more than arrogant self promotion (I really hope that is not the case because it would badly blacken the name of an otherwise useful campaign).

As of yet NOBODY has proved anybody has cashed in (w.r.t. cost of phone call). I notice you have not yet condemned the bombers or shown any concern for those losing their lives, the only thing that you have said is 'distastefull insensetive and pretty disgusting' is the use of an 0870 number (I am however guessing that this is probably nothing more than a simple oversight on your part).

I dared to question whether or not it was relevant ... which, in my opinion it isn't ... however if you think equating the cost of a phone call to someone trying to find out about their loved ones is relevant then that is your opinion ... live with it, but accept that not everybody is going to necessarily agree with you!. I just find it sad that this is the first thing some people think about in the face of a disaster.

So before you get all snooty with your next tirade of irrelevant abuse remember you did ask '...is it just me - or is this totaly out of order?' .. you wanted discusion ... or did you just want people to agree with you?

Can i just jump in here and agree with Ivan. 1Connect if you did not want a discussion, which may involve opinions not completly agreeing with yourself, then dont post in a discussion forum and ask for these very opinions.

Your question was "is it right to cash in?". Life goes on. The bombings were upsetting and harsh on all the people it has affected but this does not mean that the whole country, London especially, has to come to a stand still and provide services for free.

Everybody seems to have something to say and someone to blame for these bombs, whether it is Tony Blair or whoever else people decide to blame at the time. The truth is the only people to blame are the people who planted the bombs and planned this attack.

If after everything that has gone on all you can think of in your head is - who can i have a go at? Erm....I know, the phone number is an 0870 number, lets jump on it. Get over it and if you dont like others opinions then dont ask for them.

It is a FACT that revenue is provided by ALL 0870 numbers. This simple fact is enough to demolish Ivan Irrelevant Opinion's comment:

There is proof - just phone BT and say that you're looking for a 0870 number for your business and they'll spell out the features including up to 4p per minute for each call!

Think before you speak, if it's possible in your case.

The appropriate number to be used in the future is under discussion.A geographical no has been released for overseas callers.The Chairman of Cable and Wireless has agreed to give any profits made from the number to the disaster charity.

Why dont you stop all this infighting? Move on,and allow some time for reflection of these tragic events.

Anyhows, onto your point. There is a massive amount of difference between 'revenue' and 'profit'. The title of this thread is 'Profit opportunity from the misery of others' ... I don't believe that anybody will have deliberately tried to profit from this (I am only talking about the phone side of things here). Was it not better to get something up and running as quickly as possible? I have no idea about how PITO monetary policy works but is it possible that the cost of a standard phone line was beyond what the relevant department could sign-off thereby requiring them to go higher to seek permission - so some civil servant (knowing how slowly the wheels of Whitehall turn) decided to go with the 0870 simply to get something operational?

I personally think the emergency services responded admirably to this tragedy and I am so so sad that some peoples biggest concern is to worry about 0870. Yes this is a money saving site .. yes the 0870 campaign is, in the main, worthwhile .. however all I was saying is that some people need to put things into a bit of perspective ... weigh up the difference between the cost of an 0870 versus the cost of someones life ... which is more important to you? ... because the OP and some of the responses on this thread are not making the answer to that question very clear.

You are 100% correct .. however I will reflect on the tragedy of the loss of lives and the injuries suffered .. I fear however, that some will reflect on the tragedy of the use of an 0870.
