Good luck Rich! I've had nothing but stress from Halifax this week regarding the treasurers account. I got a call this morning saying that they will not accept only one signatory on the account and there needs to be two! I hate this sodding system!

Absolute rubbish! I just opened another one yesterday and the lady asked me how many people would be on the account..I said just me and i was opened. However as stated originally a treasury account confuses them no end. The lady rang head office for help plus I helped her wih what they required to open it! By the way it's memorandum of articles and ID (if you aren't already a long standing customer with the bank) plus a utility bill to check address.

Rich I wish it were rubbish but they want me to bring the other signatory down to the bank. The whole process is driving me crazy. Three times I've filled in a form for this account. The NW were no better. I feel like taking on the whole banking system right now.

The Memorandom of Articles is what is needed. Thinking of also opening a Halifax Asset Account as a non personal customer. You need a deposit of £5000 and it comes with cheque facility.

All banks need the MOA. I just print mine out and let them have it.

How did you get on with your bank for a normal business account?
  • Hi guys,

Ive just read this thread with alot of interest. I too have bad credit from my past but I have not missed a payment for over 2 years. I have a bankruptcy on my file(discharged since Feb '07) Its crazy that you can be a director of a company when discharged but banks wont give you an account.

I have recently tried to open a business account with zero success. Natwest direct banking, Lloyds tsb, hsbc, abbey and a few others have all turned me down.

I have forms for the Royal bank of scotland and the bank of scotland which I shall send off next week once I have verified my proof of id at their branches.

I will also visit the Halifax too to see about opening a Treasurers account which sounds ideal. This also sounds like the sort of account that those "guaranteed bank account" companies use.

The whole process has left me feeling dejected and frustrated, being rejected by all these banks is soul destroying especially when I only want a very basic account.

I'll let you guys know how I get on as if I can get an account somewhere - anyone can!

You'll be fine for a treasurers account but the halifax staff may not know about it.

I'm still trying to open this blasted Treasurer Account! Halifax are driving me crazy. I've given them every single form you can think of. The problem is they don't know about the account at branch level and this is causing grief.

You'll need to book an appointment in the branch. Take the following with you:

    1. Company Incorporation Certificate
    2. Memorandum of Association
    3. Company meeting minutes that states that the shareholders have agreed to open a Treasurers account
    4. Details of shareholders and if there are any other shareholders you'll need to bring in two forms of ID for them too.

The best thing to do is make sure your documents are filed correctly with Companies House as the bank does check.

Banks are a minefield and the government should impressing upon them the need to have a basic business account without any type of credit facility.

    Good luck.

Did warn you they are toally clueless! I opened another one and even took my present one in and had 3 people discussing how to open this type of account. So I told them what they needed..they called head office and sorted it.
